Hi guys,
We own a resale contract at SSR and are adding on a direct purchase with RIV. The dates we want at Riviera are 8 months away but that week is currently booked for the type of room we desire (A standard studio.)

Here's my question: Do the tweaks that they can do with welcome home visits when there is no availability only apply to brand BRAND new DVC customers? My husband wants to call to ask but I'm not sure if they would be able to help since we're not technically new DVC members (just getting a new and direct contract.)

Any advice or input would be awesome. Thank you!

Yes, new members only AFAIK. Otherwise they would likely be stuck doing one for anyone and everyone who added on as little as 25 points direct.

I figured as much but thought it couldn't hurt to ask you guys. Thank you!

I may be wrong so perhaps one of the more seasoned owners will know for sure. But congratulations on your add on!

I would call and ask nice, they may help you out. If they don't then hopefully you get something good elsewhere at 7 months.

It only applies to new owners. They wouldn't even help me when we added on at RIV with my adult children who were brand new owners. Because DH and I already were, and had already booked reservations in the past, we didn't need any guidance or assistance in how to use our membership.

I’m a new owner and they said there is nothing they can do even for new owners now this year because availability is so limited. I found my reservation by stalking. So you are not missing out.

We just got two studios at Riviera for our welcome home trip in December. Called several times prior and couldn't get any of the dates we wanted but third time was a charm. Only issue now is that we may want to switch to a March date depending on how things are going in FL in the next couple months.

Can you change a Welcome Home trip and get them to book another or is it strictly a one-time deal?

Generally it is one and done. Cancel is on you. There is only so much they will do, you know?
This is how we understand it to be ..... should we cancel it would be up to us to find something else

It’s a one time deal. Our welcome home trip was cancelled because Disney was shut down. They would not reschedule it for us. We booked it ourselves piece by piece as people slowly dropped their Thanksgiving 2020 reservations.

That is harsh. For any other circumstance I understand the one and done approach. But the resort wasn't even open, if you wanted to go. I'd have expected them to help you rebook.

Except the whole reason they do the Welcome Home is to help new owners get their first trip booked especially when it’s under the 11 month mark and to help navigate the process.

There really is no reason when the owner has gotten that help and can now reschedule like everyone else.

Yeah, they won't let you game the system...

We bought with original intent for aulani vacation. (Simplified explanation) and planned on using welcome home visit to get it booked.

Last Jan there were so many open rooms and cheap air, we couldn't pass up a 3 night stay in wdw!

When I came back to ask for help with welcome home stay in aulani, they told me to pound sand. ( Was still able to get it done stalking )

I guess like pp said seems it's meant for first time with short booking window.
