quote by Webmaster Kathy: Berate?

Please read it again, Mare. I was merely trying to get people to stop and try to get a little perspective." end quote...

Webmaster Kathy, I admire your defense of the person that wrote the Dame Doris, its important to realize that Dame Doris put a lot of time, effort and energy to maybe mimic what is often listed in BadShoe... I feel sorry that Dame Doris had no idea the response would be this passionate in the negative.

However, I take that statement as a personal attack Webmaster, as if you are taking a ruler to my hands and smacking me telling me to play nice.... am I a little sensitive? a little lost in the computer translation? I can give you that, but stilll "ouch". Yes, i felt that your post did infact "Berate" me, and others.

It may have missed the mark, but let me restate it, this country, this society in this time has a problem with bullying, and "mean girl" syndrome.

I could go on, but I'm sure my points would be misinterpreted, as I often am not clear.

I LOVE the BAD SHOE website! This one... well this one, seems more mean spiritied.

And what if it's not about your wardrobe but your fat body, or your wardrobe is what it is becasue you don't have much money and that's what was on sale at K-Mart, or because you're fat? Or are you "better" than that?

Nope, not better at all. In fact, everytime we go, I ask my friends, "Does this show how much weight I've gained?" Or I ask them to take my picture with the digital so I can see how it looks. But if I happen to screw up sometime and dress like an idiot, I want to know it so that I don't do it again.

Well toots, I disagree. I stick by my comments, and I am thrilled to know that there are so many other people here on this thread who understand how nasty it is to make fun of other people's appearance. Got that, honey?

:rotfl2: You completely ignored what I was saying. Is it okay to make fun of other people's intelligence or lack of planning while it's not okay to make fun of their beer t-shirts? Is it okay to call them stupid because it's their first Disney trip and they don't know how to get from ToT to Muppets? Personally, I think if you guys are going to be outraged about this, you should be outraged at all of the "nastiness" that's going around. Hey... if you're gonna go... go all out! :goodvibes

I've always thought that the greatest humor comes from those who can make jokes at their own expense, while the lowest humor comes from those who make jokes that personally embarrass others.
Wonderful quote...I'm going to replace Ralph Waldo Emerson in my signature with you. :teeth: (And it's good to see you!)

I do wonder who decides what is trashy/tacky and what is not. :confused3
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To each his own.
If what someone wears bothers someone else -- then don't look.
Although I would LOVE to see Clinton and Stacy (What Not to Wear) at WDW! :goodvibes
I would like to think that others can follow the golden rule when possible. And pointing out on the internet with photos what someone sees as someone else's flaws does not follow in that.
But what is the difference between badshoe.com and Dame Doris?
I never read anyone complain about badshoe. :scratchin
Either way, it does not matter to me. We know the parks (and every public area in the world) is filled with bad dressed people. I have seen worse at grocery stores. :magnify:

Thanks, MaryAnn! But leave ol' Ralph right where he is. :) (Good to be back!)

OMG EVERYONE get a life for God's sake.

I thought they were funny & cracked up. If everyone is having such a coronary over this, maybe it should be stopped.

I think feedback like this, which really is positive feedback if you look at it, people taking the time to express how they feel about a subject of a website that is near and dear to their hearts, is really invaluable to Pete and those he works with. I think it gives him/them a keen insight to the inner feelings and attitudes that make this website, The DIS, such a special place to so many. I truly do feel that Pete will take the feedback to heart.

But Dan, do you really believe this? After such emphasis over time has been placed on 'no free speech', 'privately owned board', ect has been pushed by site representatives? I hope you are right. I do think this whole thing was something intended to be funny. However, based on the above, and the nature of the site itself; it shouldn't be surprising to the author or site management that it was recieved as poorly as it clearly has been.

I think anyone who wants to gauge the success of Dame Doris need only take a look at this thread.

I don't know the background or who the author is, but Dame Doris was CLEARLY intended to be funny and tongue-in-cheek, not hateful and mean.

But all the outrage and mob mentality (I can hear "kill the beast!!!" in my head!) seems a little out of proportion to the problem.

Someone published a humorous piece with only good intentions, and the posters have spoken and said that they don't find it funny.

I'm sure the message has been received

Kathy, dear,
I have read many of your posts, and I believe you to be an honest, sincere person with well intentions. But I have to say, that this topic has been blown out of proportion by the degree of hype accorded to it by what must be 'senior' board management. It appears to me that "Doris" was to be intended to be a 'draw' to subscribers to the newsletter, and presumably therefore a selling point to the site's credibility by having a larger subscriber base.
CLEARLY, this concept is DOA. I'd suggest that in the future such marketing methods should be run thur a 'trial period' on the boards, to discover if there is acceptance. Once a 'fanchiasise' has been built - take that to a subscribe only access. :)

I am not disagreeing - there have been mean spirited posts regarding just about everything,- that can be found on these boards. There are afterall, thousands and thousands of subscribers to these forums, and hey, it takes all kinds to make the world go round. Moderators usually step in and try and correct any outstandingly rude comments.

I am not disagreeing that if you don't like what you read -- then don't read it. Thats absolutely true -- I try to stay away from those types of threads (you can see them in the making) that will generate un disney like behaviour. Thats just a personal choice on my part.

What I DO find shocking and completely beyond the pale -- is that the owner/operator of this board fully endorses such a behavior that ridicules the appearance of unknowing victims. What’s worse -- these people's pictures are going to be DISTRIBUTED via an email newsletter to the (how many thousands?) that subscribe to the dis news letter.

I can not imagine how I would feel if I found my picture being distributed world wide making fun of my appearance.

I don't think my sense of outrage is disproportionate to the situation. I am completely disgusted.

I'm a moderator, and up until now I have been silent because I want no part of this debate.

WebmasterKathy has said it already, but so there is no confusion: the moderators were NOT let in this before any of you. I think a lot of you knew before I, personally, did what all the cryptic messages on the home page were about.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this thread has gone beyond being useful.

There are 12 pages of responses that make it BLATANLY clear that Dame Doris is NOT wanted. As such, I'm closing it. PLEASE do not start another thread. As those will also be closed.
