Im guessing its ALWAYS Miller time. I know that this getup would pass for rural chic in some places - to the rest of us it says that the TV show "COPS" probably films around your house a lot.
Roll out the Barrel...
..as it would most certainly look better than this polyester mess. Im not entirely certain whats happening here - it looks like shes wearing Andre the Giants thong and the seat cover from a 1977 Dodge Dart. Repeat after me - "just because I can put it on, doesn't mean I should wear it".

I think mean spiritedness shows up in many ways including in the above posts.
Welcome Dame Doris, I'm looking forward to reading more reviews!!![]()
Sounds like berating to me. Particularly in super large letters.WebmasterKathy said:But all the outrage and mob mentality (I can hear "kill the beast!!!" in my head!) seems a little out of proportion to the problem.
You're kidding, right? Making fun of someone's body and clothing are the same to you as laughing about someone confusing two rides at DisneyWorld??? How does one even attempt to explain the difference to you?Wow... for a group of people who regularly laugh at anyone who confuses Space Mountain with Mission: Space, I have to say... I'm surprised at this uproar. I mean... is it really that much more offensive to laugh at someone's fashion choices than it is to laugh at them for not doing their Disney homework? The hipocrisy in this thread is what's truely disturbing.
It's extremely naive to think that the DISers who have posted about the stupid things theyve heard other guests say always offered information. Sometimes you may want to offer but can't for whatever reason. Then we have the distinction that advice is free but clothes are not... so, bad comparison there. And information is what Dame Doris is offering. "This is what you shouldn't do if you care what other people think." If you don't care, then why does it matter? If you do care, then you have a guideline for what is inappropriate. Information can be very useful. Maybe a lot of you don't like the tone of the information being offered, and that's fine. But sarcasm and parody are used all the time to great effect. If I ever see myself spotlighted by Doris, I'll laugh, say "why'd she have to catch me on that day," and remember to watch my wardrobe more closely next time. But I'm not telling anyone else if I see me and it's not going to hurt my feelings in the least.Soupermom said:We usually laugh at the people because many time we have offered the correct information and they just ingnore us (and we aren't taking pictures of them!). I doubt anyone offered the people in the photos new wardrobes...![]()
No, love, I'm not kidding. DISers regularly laugh at people for being Disney-illiterate! We degrade them for not knowing how to use fastpass, for thinking that there's a bus from Epcot to MK, for thinking that Downtown Disney charges for parking. We roll our eyes and toss up our hands and wonder how anyone could be so stupid as to think these ridiculous things!! And yet you berate the Dame Doris character for wondering how someone could wear inappropriate clothing?? Hmm... I think I've got the "difference" spotted darling.MaryAnnDVC said:You're kidding, right? Because some people feel making fun of people's bodies, appearance, and backgrounds, particularly on a public website, just isn't funny. For example, would it be funny if Dame Doris said that someone looked like they smelled bad, or looked pregnant because they looked fat, and that person, and people that they knew, saw it?EsmeraldaX said:I agree. Wow some people really need to lighten up.
This site is obviously a joke. I really, honestly, truly, and absolutely can not for the life of me see how anyone could take it seriously enough to be offended by it.![]()
And what if it's not about your wardrobe but your fat body, or your wardrobe is what it is becasue you don't have much money and that's what was on sale at K-Mart, or because you're fat? Or are you "better" than that?If I ever see myself spotlighted by Doris, I'll laugh, say "why'd she have to catch me on that day," and remember to watch my wardrobe more closely next time.
And you don't see a difference between a friend privately letting you know, and your picture being posted and made fun of on a well-known website? The intent of Dame Doris is certainly NOT to help people with kindly pointing out the errors of their ways...it's to get a laugh, at other people's expense. As a matter of fact if I ever have on something ill fitting and inaprropriate I want someone to let me know.
Well toots, I disagree. I stick by my comments, and I am thrilled to know that there are so many other people here on this thread who understand how nasty it is to make fun of other people's appearance. Got that, honey? No, love, I'm not kidding. DISers regularly laugh at people for being Disney-illiterate! Please read it again, Mare. I was merely trying to get people to stop and try to get a little perspective.
Again, it was clearly intended to be humorous. Did it miss that mark? The majority says that it did.
But we've got a real angry piling-on happening here in response to that, and I don't think that's warranted. A simple "Not funny, that could hurt feelings" would have gotten the point across.
In the end, realize that this fictional character was created by a person, and intended to entertain. Not by a mean person, and not intended to embarrass or shame anyone.
The attacks on the Dame Doris character are bleeding over to the author. I truly don't know who the author is, but I'm feeling he/she is bearing the brunt of many personal attacks here.
I think what we're seeing is that we have a huge melting pot here, and what may be funny to a cosmopolitan Manhattanite may not play well in Columbus, or what is the height of humor in Kansas City might make no sense or even be offensive to a San Franciscan.
Just please try to understand that Dame Doris was intended as humor and to bring a bit of irreverent fun to the newsletter, and now we all know that the majority has said she missed the mark.
