Thanks Judy, very timely, I will read it again. Always need a refresher.

Thanks Judy! I had not even noticed that new menu bar. :)

Just a thought here as this entire website with all the Disney links has grown so much in recent years...

I think DIS should consider choosing some naming conventions and then sticking with them. The names for all the forums that have developed can be quite confusing.

For example, what is the name of the forum for WDW theme park advice? It is "Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies" under "Disney Trip Planning Forums". How would one know this is a WDW forum and not a DLR forum? Many of the WDW forums are just simply called "Disney". A few are called "Disney World" which at least gives you a sense of what the forum is about.

The forums for DLR are called "DL" or "Disneyland" forums. The new secret menu bar says "DL xyz".

The Disneyland Resort Paris forum says Disneyland Paris (which is just a theme park at DLRP like DL is at DLR). And the Tokyo Disney Resort forum is under "Other Lands", which is fine, but the forum is called "Tokyo Disneyland" which, like DL, is a theme park at TDR.

For anyone too quick to say I am being overly picky about names, I will take the liberty of linking to "lesser" Disney forums ;) to see what they do.

MiceChat calls all the resorts by their proper names. See http://micechat.com/forums/celebrate-parks/

MousePlanet's MousePad does too. See http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/index.php

The site organizers for DIS do a great job and DIS is my favorite place for all Disney information. It apparently started as a WDW only forum and grew from there. I am sure the DIS organizers have a lot of things on their plate. However, I think now that they have this giant resource that has probably grown way beyond what they initially envisioned, they should step back and think about how the forums are organized and what they are called. It will only make the best Disney internet resource better. :)

Awesome post, Trey. I agree 100%! :thumbsup2

The board guru's should be able to create an animated GIF for this that flashes, or something. I get the feel the majority of newbie's join and then start posting without looking at or reading the stickies because it is just easier. I have found the search works much better these days than it ever did.

Hoorah,

Yup, the sad thing is that planning guide has been there for years....honestly. I have referred people to it weekly for years.......we have had menus on our site for years.......most of the time i point people to it, they never even respond.

I agree that our board taxonomy is confusing, you are right that it was just sort of organic and not strategic! I will pass on your observations, as i agree with you.

Speaking of the menus, i tried looking at them one time and i found it sort of confusing. I don't know, maybe it's just me. They also don't seem to be complete as there are always people asking about if the BB still has the MC sandwich, etc. As much as i love the disboards, i only look at the menus at allears.net.

I am more that overwhelmed at planning our first trip. Your information is so valuable.
