Yesterday we went to Wekiwa Springs. It took around 1hr 15 mins to get there. First we bought sandwiches and snacks at Walmart to have a picnic. When we arrived w headed to the huge and partially shaded picnic area which also has BBQ grills. It was extremely pleasant picnicing in the shade of the huge trees. We had unexpected guests for lunch, a feral cat, some wild turkeys and a squirrel -(who didnt get along too good with feral cat). We tried really hard to ignore them but they were really cute and surprisingly tame probably cos of people feeding them. DD couldnt understand why you shuldnt feed them. After lunch we hired 2 canoes a 3 seater and a 2 seater. i managed surprisingly well I was quite please with my paddling skills:banana: It was total serenity as there werent many other people out on the water which was totally surrounded by mangroves and shrubs. The crystal clear spring water was beautiful and we saw many fish and turtles in there. Along the way back we also saw 2, 4-5ft gators on a log overhanging the spring. They actualy let us get around 5ft away from them before 1 started hissing and the other dived in the water. Seeing the gators in a natural environment is probabl;y the highlight of the vacation. It was like paddling through Jurassic Park.:cloud9: After we returned the canoes which actually only cost $23 for the 2 for 2 hrs, the girls and I went in the swimming hole for a swim. the water was a gorgeous clear turquoise color, the bottom was sandy, and had stones and plant on it. It was very cool and refreshing. The spring water comes up from the ground and it made your skin fel really soft. We snorkelled in it but there were no fish there. it dod lead to the spring where we canoed but there was a short foam barrier blocking what I assume fisha etc from getting in easily. I would highly recommend this to anyone. It was the best day so far.:woohoo:

Thanks for the review. This is a place I've been interested in since reading my first Unofficial Guide!

Thanks for the review!

It sounds like a wonderful place to visit, although I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with gators that close. :scared1:

I might have to brave it though.
