Weird wifi issue on Wonder - keep getting notifications from other apps

We're currently on the Wonder, which is docked in SF today as part of the California Coastal repositioning cruise. We signed up for the free 50mb in day 1, which was eaten up in a few minutes... Since we were still in dock I was using cell service but must have had wifi on... So watch out for that! The crazy thing is that it ate up the data without us using our phones.

Anyway... We didn't sign up for any paid packages after that. I put my phone in airplane mode, turned off automatic updates, and confirmed it showed "no service" in my phone's tray. DCL wifi was on so we could use the app. But periodically I keep getting app notifications... Like from Facebook, Pinterest, Ebates, etc. Or it acts like it wants to start uploading photos (but doesn't actually upload anything). Seems to happen every few hours or so. But I can't click on them to open the app, even if I click on it as soon as it hits my phone. And my phone shows no cell service when it hits either.

Anyone else have this happen? Is there a periodic leak in the ship wifi? It's not happening to my husband (but he has almost no apps on his phone). I force stopped all the apps it was happening with and it still continued.

On our Panama Canal trip recently we experienced the same thing, apparently some of the notifications would push through the DCL Wife, from what I could tell as long as you absolutely log out of the Connect @ Sea Wifi service on your phone or any other devices you might have it connected to, you won't use any of your data that Connect logs for your account. Airplane mode and Connected to DCL Guest is all you need for the Navigator App.

Connect@Sea recommends the following:
  • Put your device in Airplane Mode and turn on your Wi-Fi.
  • Turn off automatic software updates, Photostream (iOS devices), background app refresh (iOS devices) and automatic app updates in Playstore (Android devices).
  • Disable automatic downloads of attachments and automatic backup and syncing to cloud-based services.
  • Limit streaming movies, music and videos.
  • To make a phone call, turn off Wi-Fi. (Roaming rates may apply. Please check with your carrier.)
This will help you if your phone is connecting to land cellular service as well. You don't want your phone data eaten up by needless updates.

The Connect@Sea desk can help you shut everything down.

I've gotten those notifications as well on the Dream & Fantasy. Gotta be a glitch/bug in the wifi setup onboard.

I noticed in March on the Wonder that I was getting notices from Facebook and some other apps even though I was on airplane mode and completely signed out of our WiFi package, so the only access I should have had was the free ship WiFi.
