Weird Text Message - Ever Have This Happen?

On the Verizon website, anyone can send a text message. So, it's very possible it didn't come from your DH's phone but the sender could have put his number in the "From" field.

wow! You can do that without a password? So, who gets charged for the text? That seems like a very, very bad thing.

How odd!! I can send text messages from the Sprint website but I have to already be logged in under my account so it always shows my cell phone number. I've never heard of sending texts over the computer where you can just put in ANY number..that would be scary!!!

I did read awhile back about spoof calling cards and you could use any number (valid or not) to place an outgoing call (not sure if this would work in regards to text messaging), that would be one reason why no one can actually call into the number you have.

I hope this gets resolved soon, it's very strange!!

Even the rep at Verizon admitted, this is a mystery - and I got the right person - she LOVES a mystery and will work like a dog to solve this.

Have you guys considered disabling the text feature altogether? Up until just a few years ago we all got by with actually talking on the phone. I cancelled mine and my daughter's text service for budget reasons and we haven't missed it. It seems as if it's basically used as a tool for covert reasons.

I really like texting.....I can leave a message to my adult kids without disturbing them at work. Young people communicate a LOT by texting, & it only costs abot $5 a month for 1,000 messages on Cingular-a bargain!

I think that it probably comes down to this: either your dh sent the text message (really, really doubt this), or verizon had some weird hiccup and this text message was the result, or someone knows about the prior incident and is trying to by playing a 'joke' on you or your dh by either using his phone when he wasn't around, spoofing his number, or cloning his phone.

Personally? I'd assume it was choice number two unless something else happened. Sometimes you just have to go with the most likely choice even when you're worried about the other possibilites.

I hear ya', but if you're familiar with this story, her DH was getting a LOT of inappropriate texts from a female co-worker. It was the communication tool she preferred. That's why I suggested just dropping the service.

I also have cingular and I pay $10 per month for 1,000 texts and that plan is not even available now. It's $10 for like 600 any kind of messages(inc multi media, etc)

Me too. I was paying $10 for each line - at total of $20 extra per month. It just wasn't worth it.

Plus I had a married male co-worker texting me all the time. It started out innocently enough - asking about work related stuff, then about game scores (like he couldn't find the info elsewhere), then "have a good evening" or "good morning", then "thinking of you", "miss you", etc. They got increasingly inappropriate. Cancelling the service helped to nip that in the bud.

why don't you just have text messaging turned off on your phones? then you don't have to worry about this anymore.

We thought about it, but decided that for now, we're keeping it - as it's the easiest way for us to communicate while he's on the road - sometimes, he's just too wrapped up to converse, but if I text him a question, he can then check it and respond when the time is right.

So far, our other little nightmare has gone away - no more communications whatsoever, so we'll see how it goes. If things get ugly - we might have to drop the text service. This was an unexpected bump in the road.

I know its a real pain, but can you switch your cell numbers? I remember someone in front of me at the cingular store did this because they kept getting calls from people the didn't know. It seemed simple enough for them to do at the store. The problem lies in you having to update everyone with your new numbers.
But this way, you should have no more problems.
