With more than 13,000 Disney experts on the Dis Boards today... I know someone will be able to help me!!!
EVERY time I go to WDW I end up with a Rash on my legs.
Right above the ankles on the front side of my legs.
Red dots, and itchy. I have never had allergies, and
sit outside at home in Chicago all summer and don't get
anything like it.
I have read a few Trip Reports that talk of something similar.
Have you ever experienced anything like this and what was
it caused by?
Thank you,,,I would like to know before I go back in Sept.:scared1:

I have read that it is from the sun reflecting up from the pavement. I always put sunscreen on my legs and I have never had a problem, but it seems to be pretty common.

I had a similar rash during my last trip but it had never happened during previous trips....mine took about 3 weeks to completely go away....

I unfortunately get that little rash every time I go, but I have never tried the sunscreen in that area. I did read about a women that had "the rash" and she thought it was the sheets; she had the manager wash her sheets on prop. and then she was fine. I'll try anything because of course it is my favorite place in the world and worth the pain if necessary.:confused3

:santa: :santa: We go every December, this last December it was 85-90 degrees all week the first week of December. My son got sick about 2 days before vacation. He is light skinned & burns easily. We put plenty of sunscreen on, wore hats, & did not get too hot. But since his immune system was down (due to being sick before our trip began), he broke out in a major rash when we got home. It was all over his upper torso, his legs, & all over his back. It itched, it was red, & it was everywhere. I read on the DIS boards about this & was very skeptical at first, but then I remembered I had saved this information from prior reads on these boards. It is called PMLE (polymorphic light eruption).
I immediately covered his entire body in Benadryl Itch Stopping Gel which contains a histamine blocker. It immediately started disappearing. But since his immune system was still not 100%, it continued to come back on his body for about 1-2 weeks after we got back. Anytime a spot came up, we put the Benadryl on it & it quickly disappeared. Here is a link on the information that helped me out tons !!!

I hope this help you!!!!

understand what I am up against...You are all so sweet to take
the time to help me out.
Happy summer,,,,,,,stay safe
Thanks again:goodvibes

I also had this wierd rash and it was right at the top of where my sock ended. Since it didnt itch I dont believe it was any insect bites. Was also on both legs and only on the inside of the leg.

That's Golfer's vasculitis.

I get PMLE on my hands and the itching is enough to make you cry as a grown adult. The only relief I could get was sitting with my hands in cold water. Chemists has told me for ages it was prickly heat and antihistamine would solve the problem which it didn't.

If any of you get this rash (it seems to choose a particular area) get a sunscreen that has titanium dioxide in it and it should block out the UV that causes it. Childrens and sensitive suncreen have it in. I have never had the rash since I got this type of sunscreen.

OOH!!! I think I know the answer to this! I walked in the Breast Cancer 3-Day last year (60 miles in 3 days) and at the end of day one (23 miles) I noticed a rash that had formed around my ankles, a little on my feet, and started to move up around my sock line. It didn't itch, but it stung a little bit. I went to the medical tent that night and found out that many walkers were going there complaining of the same symptoms. I was told that I had "ROAD RASH" - basically tiny broken capillaries from an excessive amount of walking. On day 2 of the walk I noticed TONS of people walking around with the same rash (though some people had it up to their calves/knees!), so there definitely seemed to be some accuracy to their 'diagnosis'. I used a little cortizone cream, and that seemed to help some with the stinging, but time (and rest) was what really helped to heal the rash. I'd say it was completely gone within a week.

Your symptoms sound VERY similar to this "road rash" and, as we all know, there is a LOT of walking at WDW. Road rash would be my guess. :thumbsup2

HA!!! I just read the link from Alesia's post above. I was right! It's 'road rash' (not the medical term, but a layman's term I guess) - the article even mentions the 3-Day. :thumbsup2

It's heat rash, a.k.a. Golfer's Vasculitis. My wife gets it everytime we go to WDW. She even got it when we were at Niagara Falls and Toronto during an extremely hot and humid week.

Heat rash is a skin irritation caused by excessive sweating during hot, humid weather. The best treatment for heat rash is to provide a cooler, less humid environment. Keep the affected area dry. Dusting powder may be used to increase comfort, but avoid using ointments or creams-they keep the skin warm and moist and may make the condition worse.

Here's some info on heat rash:

Thanks So much for the heads up!!!!!!!!:upsidedow
I will do everything to keep it under control!

I get the rash around my sock line every time we go to WDW. (I've been there 19 times, all times of year) but it is usually worse during hot weather. I went to first aide at Mk one of the times and the nurse there called it "Disney rash" and said it is VERY common. She said it is from the sun reflecting off the pavement. I've traveled with up to 12 more people in my party and was the only one with the rash, but have heard of several people I work with that got it while in WDW.
If I leave it alone, it doesn't itch too much. But it usually takes a few days for it to disappear after I get home.

That's great advice and I hope that I can be as strong as you!!!!!
Thanks for letting me know that the First Aide Dept at MK is
actually aware of it....
I guess if I have to get any ailment it may as well be one called
"Disney"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:
