I just called WDW-DINE to change an ADR. When I said exactly that- "I need to change an ADR" the cast member, 'Garison' said: "Change a what? I am not familiar with that term." Isn't that a Disney term??

It is a Disney term - they changed it last year...maybe the CM was very new??

:rotfl2: The same thing happened about 3 weeks ago when I called for some information!!!! I said something to the effect that I wanted to check to see when I could make ADR's and the CM at the other end went very quiet and then said "What does that mean?? I have never heard those letters before!!" Guess they need a list of letters in front of them to understand Disney talk!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Happened to us when we checked in at the podium. The CMs didn't know the abbreviation. So I stopped saying ADR. :)

Same thing happened when I went to Guest Relations and said I needed to check on the price of upgrading to an AP - he had no idea what I was talking about.

The abbreviations are so common on the boards, but apparently CMs are taught the whole phrases.

The CMs don't speak DisBoard lingo ;). Just like they don't say "Cindy's", "Poly" or "Spectro." I would imagine if they were in the habit of doing that, they would confuse the vast majority of guests that they talk to since most are not members of this board. It's policy for them to use correct nomenclature...they will book advanced reservations for you, tell you all about the Magic Kingdom (no, it's not called "Disney") and make reservations for you at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. It drives my sister crazy...I had called my brother one day to see if he wanted to go to "Disney's Animal Kingdom Park" with us one day. One of the things that I just can't shake having been a CM since it is ingrained in my brain now. :earsgirl:

The Disney term would be Advance Dining Reservation, ADR is an internet abbreviation

Anytime I call Disney, I act like I don't know any of the internet terms. I find the CM's are more pleasant that way. Maybe they get intimidated by people who seem to know all about Disney.

Of course, they do have that file on me . . . Where's George Orwell when you need him?

I understood they went from Priority Seating to Advanced Dining Reservation to just Dining Reservation or over a matter of weeks. ADR, which we all use, apparently only lasted weeks in Disneycorporatespeak.
