Hi kind of a weird question.
We are looking at a Hawaii trip way way in 2027. My husband and I have been to Hawaii before in 2004 before our son was born (but I was directing a school choir there and so I had 55 teenagers with me, lol). So we are looking to go again in 2027 this time with our 20 year old son (who is autistic) We stayed on Waikiki beach in 2004 and really liked it. For our trip we are debating whether to stay again on Waikiki beach (there are a lot of things to do within walking distance if I remember correctly, or at Aulani. I have heard that Aulauni is about an hour away from Waikiki beach. We do NOT want to rent a car because we don't like driving in places we are not familiar. Does Aulauni offer transportation to places like Waikiki? Other places? I imagine an uber that far away would be VERY expensive.
Thoughts? Please and thank you!

As much as I love Aulani, I'd have to say that you may be better off staying in Waikiki. There is no special transportation from Aulani to the other parts of the island.

It's about an hour away, and there's no regular transportation between the two places. There are a few places you can walk to from Aulani, but the main focus is the resort and beach.

I wouldn't stay in Waikiki without a car either, personally.

I don't want to sit in a van with a horde of people going from tourist trap to tourist trap. Public transportation isn't going to get me to hidden gems or trailheads, nor will it allow me to avoid crowds at the popular sites.

Good points. Uber might be a solution but then you need to know what to ask for. One of the really nice things about Hawaii is just driving around and finding the beautiful and unique scenes.

The tour company we are going with is providing all private transportation. I don't want to sit in a van with strangers either when I have an autistic 19 year old. lol.
