We use Priceline for car rentals frequently when we come down to Orlando for the weekend, but I had a weird experience this time. We had gotten Avis, who we get quite a bit (although not as frequently as Alamo). There was a bit of a line, so we got to the counter agent around 12:15 a.m. We're usually on a flight that arrives around midnight, although I reserve the car starting at 8 p.m. in case we come in standby earlier. It doesn't affect the price because we return it before 8 p.m. on the last day.
The woman spent quite a bit of time punching things into the computer and looking back and forth on the rental sheet. Finally she told me that even though it was a prepaid rental, the computer wouldn't accept it and kept saying that all the cars at that rate were sold out. She thought that since it was technically the next day, that might be causing the problem, but it wouldn't let her manually override it (we did the same thing two weeks ago, so that probably wasn't the problem). She got someone to help her, and he couldn't get the computer to cooperate either! I think we were at the counter longer than we'd waited in line. Finally she managed to get it through somehow...I don't know how, but we ended up getting the collision insurance included at the price we'd already paid. Weird! This is the first time we've ever had a problem with Priceline. They worked it out, but still, if you use Priceline, be sure to have a copy of your reservation printed out with you.
Since it's spring break, we noticed that they only had a handful of cars left when we went out to the garage. I think there were only two compacts left.
