Weird Phone Call

I just got a weird phone call from "The Corporate Office" . The phone number is located in Portage, WI. They were inviting me to a meeting at a local Chinese restaurant about "my timeshare". The guy was telling me that "my timeshare" had hired them to manage the account. When I asked him what the name of my timeshare was, since he had been hired by them to make the call, he couldn't give me the name. But he expressed that they had been hired to manage my timeshare. When I insisted he tell me the name of my timeshare, he got upset. I told him that no way he had been hired by "my timeshare" because he couldn't even tell me the name of my timeshare.

Then he says, how can you go from A to C like that? HUH?? I hung up on him.

Wow. What amazes me is that some folks out there actually fall for this...

I'd report it to the police and have them stake out the local Chinese restaurant. Scary!

That and many police jurisdictions have personnel that track and (hopefully) charge these type of scammers.

You listened a lot longer than I would have, Deb! I just ask them if they are aware they have to purchase the Do Not Call list. Then I tell them I'm going to hang up and report them to the DNC, and that's exactly what I do. I have the National Do Not Call registry on the top of my toolbar, and reporting a scam takes less than a minute.

Yeah, I listened a lot longer than I planned, but I wanted to see where he was going with this. I assumed it was a company that would take my timeshare off my hands for a fee or something, but I kept interrupting him from his prepared speech that he was reading.

That reminds me of recent calls from "your credit card company" wanting to lower my rates. I ask what credit card as I have more than one and he tells me I have to tell him my credit card number first. Yea, right...

As an FYI, its easy for any scammer to spoof Caller I D, so you can never give info to a legit "looking" caller either.

My good friends "Rachel from Account Services" and "Hannah from Account Services" call me frequently.

These are scams that usually fit in to one of a few categories. Promise or sale/rental for large profits, sale of other timeshares or sale of other travel type club services. In all cases they want money up front. There are legit timeshares that do this type of thing but it's still usually high pressure sales related.
