Weird pet question

Our cat Max loves to play fetch so we bought him some little foam balls to play with. The odd thing is that lately he'll take a ball, drop it in his water dish, then fish it out and bring it to us to throw -- ugh! Or, if he doesn't feel like playing with us, he'll get the ball wet, then leave it lying around. The other day I stepped on one that was sopping wet -- double ugh! Does anyone have a clue why he'd be doing this? It's only these foam balls -- I thought maybe he was playing with it near his water dish and it accidentally landed in the water, but it's happened too many times now for it to be a coincidence.

He's also starting carting around some of my daughter's beanies, we're not sure if he thinks he's a big strong hunter or if he thinks they're kittens, but he sure has been acting odd. He's 10 years old now and he never acted like this before, could he be getting senile?

Thanks Kim, you've brought a smile to my face.:D Just imagining your kitty doing those things is cute and funny.

Let's put it this way - if that's senile, then be happy. It beats soiling the rug.;)

My cat likes to drop stuff in the toilet bowl. Of course he doesn't drop HIS toys in there, but things like hair rubber bands, clothing tags, milk carton tabs, etc. Then I always have to fish them out. I don't know why he likes doing this-- -maybe he's cleaning up. ;)

My kitty is in love with rubber bands. He carries them all over the house in his little mouth. DD gets quite annoyed when he steals her hair bands and hides them. He does love dropping them in his water dish. Sounds like water is a common theme.

I think some cats just like water more than others and it's another way to play with it. One of my kitties (Bagheera) is totally fascinated with water. He will sit on the tub while you shower (and then play around in the wet tub when you're done), he will stick his head in the toilet if you let him and he will try to drink directly from our water cooler. He hasn't started dropping toys in water yet but I wouldn't be surprised if he did!

It's one of two things. Either he's playing with the water, or he's not sure of the depth of the water in his water dish and he's learned that the foam toys will float so he drops it in to see the depth, then drinks, and fishes it out ready to play. :)

One of mine LOVES to play in the sink with the water on. This is the same cat that takes 3 people to give a bath in that exact same sink.

Merry -- you might want to be careful with the rubber bands. If kitty swallows one, it can get caught around his intestines and seriously injur or kill him. :( We keep all rubber bands hidden for that reason. Same with dental floss or string or tinsel (sp?)

Our cat decided he wanted to take over all of my sons Burger King Pokemon beanie toys. He eventually stuck with the Togepi. He washed it to the point that the feet are gone, there is a hole on both sides of the stomach and all the beanie stuff came out. I find it in his food dish and litter pan as well as in all the beds. But always being washed. He sure is attached to it.

I can beat that, Doll -- Gabi and Leo love to chase DH's *beer bottle caps* around the kitchen!

My cat loves beer bottle caps too. (He drops them in the toilet of course  )

My cat has as wierd thing for plastic grocery bags; and if she can't get one of those, any type of plastic.
She won't chew them, but if she can get to one, she will lick it constantly, over and over.
That little rustling noise just drives me nuts, maybe that's why she does it.:p

One of my cats loves Q-tips. I am not entirely comfortable with him playing with them, so I always keep an eye on him. But he knows the sound of me taking one out of the package and literally comes running to the bathroom. So I have to take out two, one for him and one for me.

It's endearing, really. He's so cute. :teeth:
