Weird party request or is it me?

I got an email from a friend yesterday saying that she and another friend want to host a going away party for us, great, thanks, sounds like fun. Then she listed 3 dates to choose from for the party. Ok, but none of them work for us. One date is the day of our DD's band festival which is out of town, the other 2 are the day we close on our house and the day after we close. We had planned on staying at the new house that night and doing some work on the house that weekend. Is it just me or shouldn't they have asked us what date would work best for us? We told them the day after we closed would be the only one we could do but I would rather have it the following weekend when we didn't have anything else going on.
