Weird credit card charges

Hi everyone,

I stayed for 14 nights at Kidani Village and checked out on Friday morning last week. Then I discovered my flight was cancelled and the only room on property was in Wilderness Lodge - very expensive delay! :(((

Anyway, the card that paid for the room and was used on the Magic Bands at WL was my partners card, and mine had nothing at all to do with that booking. Nor did I use it whilst I was there. I'm shocked then, to discover a charge of well over £400 with this ID: WDW - XCO SETTLEMENT LAKE BUENA VI 840 and when I google that it says it is the Trading Post at Wilderness Lodge.

So… What can I do about it? Do I challenge it with Disney, and if so, how? Being in the UK, I don't really want to call them and run up a huge phone bill but if that's the best way I will. Is there a direct phone number for WL front desk, and does anyone have it?

Thanks all - I know this isn't strictly theme park related but I don't know where else to move it. Man the Disney Blues suck SO MUCH right now. :(((

If the amount doesn't square with what WL cost and your partner's card has also been charged by WL, I'd start with your credit card company. It may be different in the UK, but the first step with any dispute should go to the CC issuer. They have the process established to refer it back to the vendor and put the burden on them to document the charge. Until that time, again in the US, you don't have to pay on the disputed amount.

Good luck.

And the blues do suck.

If you don't think the charges are valid, challenge it though your credit card company. But I wouldn't put much stock in Google search results telling you where the charges were for that cryptic abbreviated notation. I get charges from all over WDW on my card and they often say the same thing, Disney shorthand and abbreviations.

It's more likely those charges are connected to your AKL stay.

What one should always do if there are what you think are unauthorized charges on your credit card is contact your credit card issuer using the phone number on the back of the card. There is a deadline for doing this.

They will have a well-practiced process for dealing with the problem. Make sure you tell them how certain you are about whether the charge is legit or not -- i.e. you absolutely know it is not, or it may be or may not be, but by the name of it you are not able to tell.

Often it is helpful if you have gone online and looked at all the charges to your account over the travel period and reconciled them to your receipts before you call. In the past when I have traveled I have occasionally discovered that a weirdly named charge is actually a legit charge, just very strangely named by the company -- I figured it out by going online and doing a process of elimination with all of the charges. You can also ask them over the phone to go over the charges with you.

Finally, the store in WL is called the "Wilderness Lodge Mercantile". The stores at Fort Wilderness are the "Meadow Trading Post" and the "Settlement Trading Post". Not sure what you Googled, but it wasn't correct.

Hi everyone,

the first google result says "Settlement Trading Post - Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort" and its just the 1st result because it matches the search the most.

Did you buy travel insurance? It should cover the hotel for the extra night. What was the reason for the flight cancellation? If it was within the airline's control, they should have paid for a room (but probably not at WL).

XCO is an abbreviation for Express Check Out. XCO Settlement would be the process of applying any purchases you charged back to your room to your credit card.

Contact WDW Research and Billing. If you have a copy of your statement from the resort, their phone number should be printed along the bottom.

This is what I was thinking. I didn't know the abbreviations but was thinking these were those "settling up" charges from the AKL stay.

Express check-out statements are usually emailed to the address on file, so hopefully you should have an email with your final bill. Remember that anything that was charged after the initial express check-out amount is charged separately.

If I understand your original post, was this applied to your credit card, while a different one was used during your visit? If so, if this particular credit card was used on a prior trip and was linked to your information, it may have been the one that was charged for your WL stay, if you made the one-night reservation in your name, and that one-night stay would have been charged immediately. That seems pretty likely IMO. You call to find a room for that one night because your flight is cancelled, the CM gets your name and info, finds you in the system, and when you agree to the WL room, the CM says, "do you want to charge the card on file," and you say yes, thinking the CM is using the card linked to your AKL stay, when the CM has actually pulled up the credit card you used the last time you made a reservation. 400 pounds seems like it could be a 1-night stay at WL, but I'm fuzzy on conversions and too lazy to look it up.

Hope you get it figured out!
