Weird Cardstock Question

This is going to sound odd, but I've never gone shopping just to stock up on cardstock. I've bought large amounts of white and black and a couple of Bling shades to have on hand but I've never just stocked up in general since I typically overbuy for swaps and use the extras for my regular scrapping.

Well, now that I'm not swapping and actually finishing some pages, I need cardstock. I budgeted 4 quarterly cardstock trips on my BAN and I need to take one of them now. The problem is that I have no idea how to go about buying cardstock for no particular purpose other than to have it available.

How do y'all shop for cardstock? I am lucky that one of my LSS has every shade of Bazzill in 12x12 and 8 1/2 x 11 so I have easy access to tons of colors. I just don't know how to figure out what to get.

When I started collecting, uhm I mean, purchasing cardstock, I bought the monochromatic packages from Bazzill in ROY G BIV. This way I would have a variety of shades to pick from and every main color that might be needed. I still have some that left.
I then purchased, recently, a big stack of 100 sheets of Bazzill. 10 sheets of 10 colors. They had it primary/strong shades & pastels. I went with the strong shades.

Well, after buying a bunch of different colors from 2 warehouse sales, and a LSS that went out of business, I have quite the cardstock stash. I would buy it in either 5 or 10 sheets per color. Now, I find I have many colors but never the color that I need.

I'm slowly learning which colors I use all the time, and am stocking up on them. This is what I know so far.

White - Lily White
Black - Coal and Raven
Brown - Java, and searching for a lighter shade
Red - Candy Apple and Pomegranate

I've also decided that I need the metallic textures. They only come in the 8.5" x 11" size, so I keep trying to buy sheets of that, and then I keep using them in my swaps.

which lists Bazzill matches to patterned paper lines, so if you go through your PP and see what colors match what, you could buy what matches, and store it with the PP and that might let you kit your pages easier too.

And on that note, you could get the swatch cube and supplements, and then at home play with them and your PP and make a list of the colors to buy. I bought mine on Joann.com with a 50% off coupon.

You mean we aren't supposed to buy every single piece of paper that just looks purdy to us? Even certain shades of cardstock catches my eye and added to the paper tray in my scrapbooking room. Oh right, that is why I am on the wagon.

Seriously, I like pretty paper, when I see pretty paper, I buy pretty paper, some people have a weakness with shoes or purses, mine is paper. Do you really want my advice now?

Don't get me wrong, I love my bazzill... but lately to save some dollars, I have been getting the tetured cardstock packs from Hobby Lobby when it is half off. Funny thing is I mixed it in with my bazzill and I can't tell the difference now...

I use so much white and black, that I the fact you can get that in a combo as well.

I love my bazzill because it's not white core. DCWV is white core and I get that for when I need something white core.

I always stock up on black/white and then just whatever colors catch my eye. Not technical I know.

I like the DCWV for tearing paper and other times I want the white core. It's always on sale somewhere or I have a coupon. I found I liked the neutral colors and went through them much quicker than the brighter, summer stacks. I do like bazzil paper now though and when stocking up, tend toward the neutral colors unless I have specific projects in mind.

My one LSS normally has the Bazzill on sale 4 sheets for $1 so I normally stock up then. I try to get some white and black. The rest I just pick out colors that I think will go with some of the projects I'm working on or going to work on. For New England trip I picked up several shades of brown, blue, green. When I was working on Disney I would often pick up blues and reds. Sometimes its just whatever is pretty, but I try to think of what layouts I have to work on.

I also use a lot of black and white and since I have a girl LOTS of pinks/purples. I usually buy a combo pack that has different colors together, figure it will get used eventually or give DD the colors I don't need or use.

I bought a big mixed 100 stack with 4 sheets of each colour from....er....one of the online ones...scrapbook supplies?? The one that has discount stuff. (Look, it not yet 9.00am, be gentle with me!) I'll try to find the receipt (though I keep them well hidden ) and if I can I'll post the name.

I don't have anywhere browsable so I buy whatevers on discount and work out what to do with it later Why do you think I've done orange colour page kits???

Since I have to drive 25 minutes to a "boutique" scrapping store and another 20 minutes to a chain store of any type (ACM and Michael's), I tend to buy in bulk. Nothing more aggravating than being ready to go on a page and discovering you don't have the right color.

I'm not brand particular, so Bazzill's isn't a must for me. I have bought whatever "basic" brands of standard cardstock that they carry at the big chain stores, usually in multi-color packs. And then I fill in around the edges wh the basics that I use more of (white, black, navy, cherry red).

I have gotten INCREDIBLE deals on large single-color packs of really nice cardstock at Big Lots. Two dollars for 12 (or more sometimes) of nice textured (or just heavy duty) card stock. I have gotten navy, light blue, light turquoise, eggplant, deep cherry pink, sage green, deep green, and more I can't think of at this time of the morning!

If you are really close to a store, I wouldn't get carried away with buying, especially exotic colors. Stock up on the basics (black, white, navy, red... whatever else you consider a "basic") and only buy the other colors as needed. Otherwise you risk becoming a collector instead of a user of these lovely papers! Good luck.......................P

Its funny, I find that I scrap in color moods. Sometimes I will use the heck out of red and black (can u say MICKEY!)and blue but I find myself using grays and browns a lot (along with black, red and blue) right now in my Washington DC layouts. I have on hand just about every color right now, just maybe not every shade. So when I go to the store to pick up more cardstock I usually buy which color I gravitate to because chances are thats the kind of mood I'm in and what I will scrap in.

I think we have the same LSS! I went there this friday as they have a freaky friday where paper is 4 for $1 intending just to get some white..well then I decided on some more black, some brown, green for Mike W., red for ariel's hair, blue for monster's inc sign, more green for ariel's tail and more..plus an atg gun and before I could say it my son picked up some DIBS icecream..and my total was $80!!! I did pick up some stuff that I thought I'd need at a later date...so I think I should seriously join the BAN wagon but a part of me knows that if I do I suffer enormous amounts of guilt if I fall off!!!

One funny thing I have been doing lately is taking some of the smaller leftover bits and pieces of my card stock (that I like a lot) and punch a hole in it. Then I put a brad into that.

I take the little color samples back to the store and buy more of my favorite colors.

That's a good idea!!! I should totally do that as there are colors I always want more of.

I tried purchasing one of the DCWV cardstock stacks in Neutral. I got it home and was looking at it and decided I didn't like how the edges will look on my Cricut cuts so I'm taking it back.

I think I'm going to try the matching thing. I've realized I use tons of blue, pink, brown, white and black so I'll focus on that and possibly get a few of the other colors. I find that I never have red when I want it either so I guess I will get some of that as well.

I find with that stack I've got a good amount for swaps as well as my own scrapbook - one sheet of each is no good really, the monochromatics I end up with too much the same, so these are just right
