Weird ?: Are you supposed to peel your pepperoni?

Now that I have your attention

When you purchase a stick of pepperoni from the supermarket and cut it do you peel off that "skin" type substance. When I buy it from the deli cut ready for pizza, I don't have an issue but when I buy it by the stick I HAVE to peel it, it grosses me out It's one of things that you chew & chew & chew & chew but doesn't seem to go anywhere?????
