OK, here is the deal:
We want to go to DLR in September right before we move from the bay area in CA to Morocco. In this process we need to store my car because the military does that for free since we can't take it to Morocco. So here is our plan:
10 Sept: Drive down to LA, pick up a rental car. Drive both cars to storage lot (at a port in LA). Transfer all the luggage, etc from my car to rental car. Leave my car at lot, drive rental car back to the airport. Turn car in, catch a shuttle bus to DLR. Sleep well after a busy day. :)
11Sept-13Sept - Enjoy the parks
14 Sept - check out of DLR, take shuttle to LAX and fly to Morocco.

Here is my question: What is the best/easiest airport to rent a car from? We'll be coming from the north and would like to minimize "back tracking" as much as possible. DH does not want to drive all the way into Anaheim to drop off our luggage, etc and then go do this complicated drop off my car to storage thing. The rental fee is pretty good since we are only renting for the day. We have no need to keep it a week, pay parking fees at DLR, etc.
We are a family of 3, but we'll have quite a bit of luggage (2 check in bags and 1 carry on each) because we'll be living out of our suitcases in Morocco until our household stuff arrives from CA to Morocco.
Any suggestions?

I know your husband doesnt want to back track, but it seems like it really would be easiest to rent from Alamo at DTD. You could check in to the hotel and drop your bags. Thats one less thing to worry about when you drop your car off. YOu could drive from Aneheim to the port and leave your car and go back to your hotel and leave the car in dtd. It would probably take less time to back track then to have to screw with taking a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, and it would save money. Then you could take the shuttle to the airport when its time to leave for Morocco.

Or you could pick up the rental car at one place and return it at DTD... Like pick it up at the airport, and then return it in Anaheim.. All the big rental places have a place to rent right around DL. And they can shuttle you from thier office to your hotel. But Alamo is right there in DTD.

That adds a LOT on to the cost. The last time I checked on doing that it over $100 more to do that then to return it to the same rental location.

Thanks for the advice about DTD. I didn't realize there was an Alamo rental car place there. We are going to go with this option b/c b/t airport parking costs, the hassle of trying to meet up after the rental car is rented, etc., it would be easier to just rent from DTD.
