Weighty Question

Well......when I was there in 2002, I came home 5 or so lbs lighter. We also went on the cruise afterwards. When we were in the World, we ate Mickey Bars, burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc in addition to getting no excersize (other than walking at Castaway) while on the cruise. Next time, I am sure I will lose more because I eat healthier now. I think this would all depend on one's metabolism.

Yeah right - like I am going to eat healthy on vacation.

I usually lose a few pounds. We don't snack very much. We do eat one big meal a day. (sometimes we share)

At home I get very little exercise so I think this makes a big difference for me.

When I was very strictly following weight watchers, I lost weight at WDW. Plus it was extremely hot and I didn't feel like eating.

This past trip I gained 7 lbs over 2 weeks. But we drove (2 days in a car) and my ankles were swollen so I blamed water retention....but 3 months later and I am still retaining that same water!

We gained about 10 pounds each on a 9 day trip. We walk tons but ate pretty much anything we wanted. We had had lost 100 pounds (we usually just saya that between the two of us we lost a small asian woman) between us doing weight watchers in the 13 months that had led up to the trip. The trip was a huge motivator and we would discuss at great lengths what we would eat while we were there.
I can't even imagine what we spent on food - but it was well worth it! On a side note, it is very hard on your stomach to go from eating healthy for so long and then cut loose. Without being graphic - lets just say that almost two years later we are still talking about the odors that emanated from me. We call them 'Disney Farts'

Oh yeah, forget about it when you go on a Cruise. One time I gained a nice 7lbs on a cruise.

Actually I lose about 2 lbs per trip, because it's just too hot to eat. So my appetite gets real tiny while we're there.

I can't wait to see what happens to me when we go in less than 5 weeks. I have been on Weight Watchers for almost 6 months now and have lost close to 40 pounds (hopefully I'll reach that tonight at my meeting!) I am spending all my time wondering how I can stay the same on our September trip. I want to enjoy myself, but not go overboard!!

OK...before I go over to the Wish board because I tried Weight Watchers last year (I lost 15lbs and was only in in for two and half months) and I always found myself to still be hungry. I was given 32 points per day to use and I would only use up to 25. Does the 7 extra points I didn't use make a differenc in appetite? Somebody please PM me with some pointers.

Although this is DEFINITELY more appropriate for WISH, I'm going to answer you here because I want anyone who's having this same problem (but maybe too shy to ask) to see the answer.

YES.

That 7 points a day is making a difference. Not necessarily in your appetite, but it IS making a difference. What people don't realize is that NOT eating enough is just as detrimental to weight loss as eating too much.

Basically, by not giving your body enough food, you're telling it "WHOAH! You need to save up some of this energy, cause you ain't gettin' anymore!" So instead of metabolising the food, your body stores it.

This is coming from a WW staff member, so please know that the advice is official, and I would tell members at the meeting the same thing.

Another tip is to work your flexpoints. I don't just mean use them, I mean WORK them. On the first day of your week (when your flexpoints reset to 35), don't use any. The second day, use 3 or 4. The third day use 5 or 6. The fourth day, go back to not using any. Your body will adjust to constancy, and it will show at the scale. If you shake things up by not giving yourself the same food everyday, and a different number of POINTS everyday, you'll see results much quicker.

Sarah - my advice for you (whether or not you want it - again, so anybody else in your position sees :teeth: ) is to NOT deprive yourself. If you want a Mickey bar, have one. Want a cookie? Have one. But just do it in moderation. Split things if you can. The portions at Disney are HUGE. Learn your limits. If your body is telling you it's had enough food, then stop eating. The most important tip is to get rid of the "I need to get my money's worth" mentality. Eating at Disney World is expensive, but look at it this way: food can go to waste, or it can go to waist....YOURS! :teeth:

Because of all the walking we do, I tend to lose a few pounds on the trip. As much as I love the food at WDW, if it is too hot, then I can't eat it.

Dan,
Thank you so much for the advise!! You hit the nail on the head... Mickey Bars and Cookies are my FAVORITES!!!!!! I understand just what you are saying and think I can do that. It is how I have been successful so far. I was a huge soda drinker (and not diet!). I know I will never last if I can't have any at all, so I allow myself one small glass a day, and I am fine with that. Some days I don't have any at all. My DH and I are planning on walking the mile jogging path at CSR two times a night while there, in addition to the normal park walking. And by the way, I'm just home from my weigh in and hit the 40 pound mark exactly!!!::yes:: 20 pounds earned me the trip to Disney, and 40 pounds earns me a Disney cruise in the spring. 10 more and I go to Hawaii! (All incentives from my husband!!)

You'd think that with all of that walking, I would have lost weight, but NO!!! Last trip I gained almost 10, YES 10, pounds!!! We ate VERY well, needless to say. I always figure. . . I'm at Disney: eat, drink and be merry! Don't worry about gaining or losing while you are at WDW -- just ENJOY!!! :)

If someone notices your weight gain, just say, "Oh, thank you! I got it all at WDW!!!"
