Weighty Question

I have heard and read about all the walking that one encounters upon touring the various parks at WDW. On the WDW special on the travel channel someone indicated it is not uncommon to walk 16 miles in a day! Question, given the abundant restaurants, does one find that they gain, stay the same, or lose weight when they return home from WDW?

Well, I've never LOST weight at WDW. Haha, that'd be the best diet ever.

Usually I stay the same or gain... depending on how many Beaches and Cream kitchen sinks I ordered. :o

Agreement on the same or gain. How can you lose weight when you have to have every tasty morsel that they've got there? I expect it though, so it's not really a big deal to me. My husband and I went in January and I gained 3 pounds. It was well worth it though. :p

I've stayed the same and I think it's because I'm walking while eating an ice cream cone, a turkey leg, cotton candy, funnel cakes....you name it! :p I plan on not junking it out while at WDW this year so we'll see if I can cut some of the poundage off. :)

Oh my, did I eat my way through the world last October!!! Food and wine fest, lots of GREAT restaurants, and the yummiest snacks between meals! I was on weight watchers at the time and to my suprise, I stayed exactly the same as the week before! If only I could walk that much and eat that much and never gain any weight ever again I would be a happy woman!

I gained 6 pounds during a 3-day weekend at WDW. I lost it within a week or two once I was home and eating normally. DH, wise fellow that he is, will not weigh himself within 2 weeks of a WDW trip.

I never really tracked my weight before & after except when I was 7 mos. pregnant and had a DR appt. two days after we got back and found I lost 4 lbs.!! The doctor was worried but then I reminded him where we went and he said OK as long as you gain before the next visit.

And during that trip we had two toddlers with us so we really didn't go commando or anything like we normally do.

I guess it just depends on how much you plan to eat while you are there. I don't usually watch what I eat but I don't over-stuff myself either. Not to say that's a bad thing to do or anything....

I guess I am one of the few who loses a pound or two. It's so hot when we go in August we sweat everthing out. I drink lots of water. One day I wish to visit in the winter when it's nice and comfortable.

There's no one definitive answer because everyone has different eating habits, different metabolisms, and different park touring styles! :)

I ALWAYS gain.

I've lost 168 pounds, and will continue to be on Weight Watchers until the day I die. (Unless of course I don't mind gaining back the weight! :) )

BUT....

When I go to Disney World, I don't care. Food, for me, is such an integral part of my Walt Disney World experience that I refuse to give it up. And it's been a rough road, but I've learned that that's maintenance. That it's okay to do that, as long as you balance it with a couple of weeks doing my program the way I did while I was losing the weight. I do try to apply the things I've learned. If I want a treat, I will try and split it with somebody. I try not to overdo it. If I'm not hungry, I try to stop eating. I'm not always successful, but that's maintenance! :)

Having said all that, I always gain after a trip.

On our recent trip to WDW(8 days), I gained 7 1/2 lbs. Yes, I did a ton of walking but thats less than my usual exercise routine...and I dont even want to mention the difference in my eating(and drinking) habits while in WDW. ;)
But Ive been home for about 2 1/2 weeks, back on my regular plan, and Ive lost 5 1/2 lbs since. Plus when we left for the trip I was actually 1 lb less than what my goal was so I really only have 1 more lb to go to get the weight back off.
As obsessive as I am about my weight, there is no way I will diet or exercise on vacation...thats what Im on vacation from. ;)

Okay, I usually lose a few pounds because it is just TOO HOT to eat! We end up doing little meals and not a bunch of sit down things. I am using this year's trip to "kick off" my "i am FINALLY going to lose some weight" by exercising deal.

I walk alot and don't seem to eat too much and when we do eat, we usually split stuff. Neither my husband or daughter are big eaters, so it is really easy on our pocket books!

I am going back on weight watchers as soon as I return and plan to try to keep up the walking thing. ARghhhhhhhhh...YUCK.

Wish me luck!

We are basically healthy eaters and we walk every day. At WDW, we are walking three times our normal amount, but eating bigger meals. Since we are not really snackers, we focus on two good meals and one light meal per day at WDW, and usually come out about even weight wise.

I am amazed when some folks post their eating experiences and they include 3 sit-down meals and many snacks each day. I would explode! (Believe me, I am not skinny).

However, we do enjoy those awesome drinks at the Tambu Lounge and the Banana Cabana!

I tend to stay the same. I probably lose fat but gain muscle in my legs, so my weight stays about the same.

I lost 4 pounds on our trip last month. I didn't eat as much the first few days--nerves, too busy, etc. I ordered the wonderful pork chops at Whispering Canyon on our first night, but could only eat one of them, though I did have some corn and taters. The last few days I had some great meals and a few high calorie treats. We ate at Alfredo's and I had the fettucine alfredo and lasagna combo with gnochhi--didn't eat the gnochhi. Then I had the dessert sampler with my husband and it was to die for. I had a wonderful frozen mochichino in World Showcase. On our last day I treated myself to the Marvellous pastry at the bakery in France, chocolate on top of chocolate, then barbeque at the airport.

I was so excited about my weight loss that I ate everything in sight when I got home--plus no exercise, and I gained back the 4lbs. and a couple of more!

If we stay a full week I'll lose; generally around 10 lbs. We don't snack, and I find that I don't want a full stomach if I'm riding lots of rides. Unfortunately, once I come home and become my sedentary self again, it all comes back.

That sounds like me in my pre- Weight Watchers days :p Actually, I still do that from time to time still... *lol*

DD and I both usually gain 2-3 pounds while in WDW - and I rarely do any kind of exercising at home! We usually eat lunch and dinner, rarely any snacks, maybe a bagel for breakfast. Last April, I gained 4 pounds in 4 days, DD lost 4!

p.s. Thankfully, we do lose the weight within a few days of returning to our normal eating patterns.:teeth:

I've never gained weight on a WDW trip. Most lost was 10 lbs in 13 days on 1 trip. I lose more if I'm on a budget on the trip. Amazingly, my wife has wanted to only do budget trips because she also lost weight on that trip. :D
