It's been 4 weeks now since I joined Weight Watchers and I've lost about 8 lbs total. How have you handled weight loss programs on the cruise.

I'm going to try to stay on the program, but there are so many temptations and big portions on the cruise. It's so difficult to lose a single pound, so I'm going to try really hard to stay focused. The major problem is that we have late seating, and I get hungry around 6 PM. I was thinking of eating at Topsiders or getting a burger at Pluto's with fruit from Scoop's and skipping the late dinner. I've been on DCL before and have seen the dining rooms before (which are spectacular!). So I don't want to eat a snack at 6 PM and then eat again at 8:30 PM which I'm never hungry late at night anyway.

How do you handle your diet once onboard? Do you stay focused or anything goes?

My strategy was to not deny anything to myself, but to pay very close attention to portion control - and to my body's signals as to whether or not I am hungry.

My server was worried that I was not enjoying my meals. I would only eat until I was fulfilled, and then stopped. I definitely left room for dessert, too.

Good luck to you.

I wasn't on WW when I went on my cruise, but I was still staying on top of my food choices. I chose a lot of fresh fruits and veggies at breakfast and lunch. Then I ate what I wanted at dinner. It would be VERY hard to stay completely on plan while cruising. Also, get in a lot of activity while there. You could go to the fitness center or just do laps around Deck 4. Good luck!!

2 lbs. a week is absolutely terrific!
First, don't try to lose while on the ship--work on maintaining.
Staying active is the first step--walking/active excursions, swim, walk the deck.
Second--decide what is TRULY important to you as far as food goes. Is is a great steak? Dessert every night? Ice cream every afternoon? Choose lightly at other times, and have those goodies that really mattter!
I found on our cruise that I needed an appetizer to tide me until late dinner.
On Princess our only real option short of the buffet was a yummy spicy snack mix in the sports bar. But a plate of fruit and veggies from the buffet might have been just the ticket!
I find if I go more than 3 hours w/o food, I am famished and prone to overeating. I try to have a little protein, a little fat and a little carbs at every meal and snack (100-200 calories).
Some meal ideas:
Breakfast: hard-boiled eggs, fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt
Lunch: Salads (w/ chicken or seafood on top), broth soups, fruit, veggies
Dinner: Seafood is best choice, veggies, salads, broth soups
But DO NOT pass up those items that are really important!
I avoid refined starches and sugars, trying to use fruits and veggies for my carbs--only because I can have SOOOO many fruits and veggies compared to flour/sugar items.
ENJOY your weight loss, but ENJOY your cruise! Even if you gain a pound or two, it is the time to indulge! Don't go crazy though, or you will feel miserable physically, mentally and spiritually.
Happy cruising!

(Can you tell I am determined not to be the "Big Momma" on our family reunion Disney cruise this Dec.??!! Size 10 would be fab!) :cheer2:

I like the idea of looking at the week as "maintenance" with no weight loss. I can eat a little more, but not that much more. Just a bit of indulgence.

Some weeks at Weight Watchers it would be less than 2 lbs and other weeks almost 3 lbs.

Thanks for your ideas, everyone!

Hi...Congratulation..that is a great amount to lose already!!!

DH has lost 125 pounds since last February...I lost 35 pounds before our cruise last September...It was not that difficult to eat...There is a "light fare" every night..I ate it every second night..I let myself go the other nights. I also walked/jogged deck 4 every morning, and took the stairs at all times..

I did gain though, mostly water it was. After being home one week, it was all gone. It is impossible to gain 8 pounds of pure fat in one week, regardless of what u eat...

Please go and enjoy yourself..You deserve it..

That's a good idea to eat the light fare once in a while. Was it still tastey? :confused3

This is one thing that I really don't like! I don't want to 'stuff' myself, and I do want to leave room for dessert. BUT when you don't finish your food the servers get all concerned.

Someone said that on the first night they just told their server that they do not tend to finish their dinners, so please don't think anything is wrong. She said they didn't bother her after that about leaving food on her plate. I am going to try that on our next cruise.
