Hi everyone, I just got my weight watchers magazine, and it has the info on the new program in it. Our leader told us she couldn't sell it until after the 25th, because that is when WW can release the info, but they weren't thinking about the other magazines that were already sent out! So.... here goes if you want to know about the info. I will touch the highlights, but a while back when we were speculating on the changes, some of the guesses were right on! The following is from the first page of the article. (forgive any spelling errors, I was writing it fast!)

*************************************************
Welcom to flexpoints, a new twist on the progam that's unbelievably easy to follow. No matter what your individual dieting style, you'll find the flexibility you need to achieve your weight loss goals. Once and for all. Here's a preview:

TARGET PRACTICE: Instead of daily points range (i.e., 24 to 29) you'll be fiven a points target (ie 24) this target will be determined based on your current weight.

FLEX TO SUCCESS: In addition to your points target you get 35 flex points to be used in any combination during the week. you can use them as needed, dividing them evenly over seven days, or saving them for a weekend splurge (i.e. for a holiday event or a big Sunday buffet). But once the week is over, so are they!

CHECKS AND BALANCES: Not a numbers whiz? They you'll love quick Track, a new element of the program that makes it easier than ever to tally up your points for the day. You'll be provided with a quick trak notebook during week 1. Similar to a checkbook, the quick trak system allows you to count down your points subtracting all the food you eat during the day and adding points for any activity you do. with this deposit and debit sysem you'll always know exactly how many points you have left for the day.

TAKE ACTION: Flex points features a more personalized approach to weight loss, and a move away from the "one size fits all philosphy. The program features a variety of Action sheets (available at meetings) targeted to dieters who are going through universally difficult dieting situations. Action sheets address several hot-spots, including large weight losses, plateaus, menopause, and losing the last few pounds.

The article goes on to give a 3 day diet, and talks about free foods, and then ideas on how you might encounter the need for flex points.

Sounds very similar. Our leader had already told us there wouldn't be banking of points, because they felt that people didn't really do that. I think that is where the change mostly came from, but that is just my humble opinion!;)

Thanks for the info, Vija!

It sounds like, for once, our little rumor mill was getting accurate info early on.

So points values really don't change, we just change the way we account for and bank our points a bit. This should be an easy change for existing WW members to make.

(I need to subscribe to WW magazine. I keep meaning to...)

Hi Kathy! You are up late too! I really love the magazine. I especially love the success stories. And I agree, it shouldn't be too hard for existing members to do, just that if you have been used to going to the top end of the points range, that will be a change. but as soon as the numbers on the scale drop some more, the changes will become exciting instead!

Thanks for the info Vija! My leader hasn't mentioned anything about the new program yet ... that's why I love the boards! I can get all the news/rumours first :teeth:

It doesn't sound like it will be too hard to follow ... It seems like you get pre-banked points instead of worrying about banking them each day :p Although, I wonder what would happen if you fall slightly short of your target (ie. if you ate 23 instead of 25 points)

Hmm... if you've got the new magazine, that means last month's issue will be on sale. My WW group usually sells last month's issue at half off (if they have extra copies) ... I love buying it for all the recipe ideas, especially since the points have already been calculated :)

Thanks for posting, Vija! :D

The changes don't sound bad at all. In fact, the new checkbook way of tracking points actually sounds better to me. I'm glad point values are not changing.

I am excited about the program changing it might get me going again to have the excitement of something new. Should my meeting have the WW magazine with the info in it now? I might go to the meeting tonight to pick it up.

Thanks for the info. I think that the new system is pretty darn close to how the old program was, but just putting it in a different way. I think someone told me that my weight range would be 22 points for the target and then if you have an extra 35 points that would be an extra 5 per day. If I didn't eat the 5 per day they get "banked" the same as the old.

The only difference is that it means I get an extra 2 points per day to play with as long as that extra 2 points doesn't make me gain weight. Maybe I will use mine for a glass of milk per day. It might make it easier to get my calcium in. For some reason, I have been eating so much healthier, and geting the most out of my points that I am having a hard time eating all my 25 points per day. Most day's I am so full (not all thought since it depends on what I am eating).

Thanks again,
Melanie
