We are arriving 2 weeks from today and are on the DDP and are booked at all our fav restaurants....BUT, this year, I am on Weight watchers (10 lbs to lose) and I know I am not going to do well following the program BUT.... Anyone know of some "healthier" choices that are not plain ole salads?

We are booked at Ohana, Boma, Tusker House, 1900 Park Fare, Sci Fi, Whispering Canyon, and liberty Tree.

Ohana is our FAV and I plan on ENJOYING that meal to the max....:rotfl:

Thanks!

I hate to say it but DDP and WW are not compatible. (A desert at every meal uses a LOT of points!)

WW and Disney buffets probably aren't compatiible.

I think you have seen the issue. I would try appealing to the servers for some suggestions. They might be able to tell you what could be modified to be a better choice.

Honestly, I took a WW vacation while I was at Disney this past may. I still tried to make smart choices, but didn't deprive myself of something I really wanted to try either. I did so much walking over the trip that I actually still went down 1lb at my next weigh in. Not sure if this is something you'd think about, and you do need a LOT of willpower to get back on WW when you get home but it's just what I did.

I have been on weight watchers for a long time and it's really not working too well for me :confused3 but I respect your determination to at least try to eat healthy during your vacation. Yay, you, way to go!!! I'm assuming you're talking about dinners, here?

At 'Ohana, avoid the bread, limit yourself to one wing and one spoon of noodles. Enjoy the salad and skewered meat. The dessert here is absolutely fantastic, but if you have a very small portion, you'll still be OK.

At Boma, avoid soups that are creamy and bread. Stick with the salads and the carved meats, and don't taste each dessert, pick one or two (they are small). They have great fruit and salads here, so fill up on those first so you're not starvng when you make your other choices.

Tusker House, same as Boma.

1900 Park fare: avoid the casseroles and limit desserts. Eat salad , fruit, strawberry soup (small amount, I think it might have sugar and cream added). Stay away from creamy salad dressings (of course, as with all other places). Carved meats in small quantites are fine.

Never been to Sci-Fi.

At Whispering Canyon, get a soft drink, not a shake. Do NOT order the skillet, instead, pick a regular sized entree, maybe the trout? Ask for it without butter or oil. The skillet is gross anyway! They have a fresh fruit dessert. It's a little boring, so make sure someone in your party gets a smores cheesecake and taste a bite or two. ;)

Liberty Tree (dinner?). Just limit stuffing, potatoes and gravy. Enjoy the turkey breast and the ham. Ask if they can bring you veggies prepared without butter. Split a dessert between a few others.

Remember, it's not necessary to finish what is on your plate. Stay well hydrated so you don't misinterpret thirst as hunger (carry water and drink all day). Also, if you enjoy an alcoholic beverage, avoid the calorie-packed mixed drinks like margaritas and pina coladas. Those things are like 13 points each! You could probably have 3 bite-sized desserts instead, if you think about it. (Personally, I'd reather have the avocado margarita!) Choose one glass of wine or a simple martini.

Good luck!!

First congrats on your weight lost.... eat more fruits and veggies.
Avoid sweets, fried foods and extra carbs.

At any TS - you can modify any entree.
Look at other entrees and swap some items.
As in remove the potaotes and add some steamed brocolli and fresh cut carrots.
You can call the TS 24 hours in advance - though dining, they can connect you and see what type of meal they can give you.

At HDD you can get a fruit platter and avoid the bar-b-q ribs and fried chicken.

check out the menu's so you have an idea what you can swap.

Congrats on your weight lose. When we went to WDW in May, my DH and I had lost alot of weight and wanted two things 1) Enjoy the food options while 2) Not gaining alot. I gained 3 pounds and my DH gained 9 pounds in 12 days. I don't regret anything I ate. My DH enjoyed it, but paid for it.

The DDP is probably not worth it if you are on a diet. Way too much food and too much pressure to eat what you paid for.

Based on my trip here are some suggestions:
* Eat off the kids menu at CS restuarants. The portions are better.
* Opt for fruit instead of fries.
* If nothings sounds worth the calories, go for something smaller like a side salad.
* Eat what you truly want to eat. For us, it was the desserts.
* Think ahead, if we knew we were eating at a buffet for dinner we ate lighter at breakfast and lunch.
* Eat, enjoy and walk the stairs.

Enjoy!

Great suggestions everyone. Thanks for the advice and kind words. :thumbsup2

WW really works for me and I've had great success so I want to stay "somewhat on track" as to not have to lose an extra 4 lbs I gained while on vacation...:rotfl: BUT, I *do* want to enjoy our TS meals. I am not concerned with the CS since salads are fine by me and no dessert. It's the dinners I am worried about.....I love our TS restaurants we have booked and just hope I end up making wise choices as I sit there hungry looking at the menu. popcorn::

I will defiantly work some of it off with all the walking, but not all of it, by no means. :)

Of the restaurants you booked at, Sci Fi will prob be the hardest with WW. 1 outta all those ain't bad. As far as CS goes, Pizzafairi AK has a REALLY nice antipasto salad that's about the size of a bowling ball. That's one thing with Disney, they don't skimp on the veggies!

I think one of the biggest pieces of advice is if you are going to a sit down meal, ask for the sauce on the side for everything-salads, meats, pastas, etc...It's most often times the dressings and sauces that add enormous amounts of calories, fats, sugar, and sodium to meals. Stay away from cream sauces, ask for side veggies to be prepared without butter. Stick with oil and vinegar based salad dressings. Obviously try to avoid fried foods.

Most CS & TS restaurants also offer a no sugar added option or fresh fruit for desserts.

I think you should be fine if you follow those basic rules. You do a TON of walking in WDW as well.

Have you checked out the menus yet at www.allears.net? You can look at menus for every restaurant you have booked and get a general idea in advance of what you can order.

I've been on WW for the past year (lost 67 pounds!). I'm still working on 25 more and was able to maintain on a trip to Disneyland two weeks ago.

The best thing to remember is to keep your food at it's most basic level. That means a piece of protein prepared without butter or sauces, plain steamed rice or a plain baked potato and steamed veggies. When you order mashed potatoes or something like rice pilaf, there's no way of knowing exactly what's been added. Order salad dressings on the side, limit yourself to one piece of bread and don't use butter. I know it sounds boring, but it really cuts down on the calories.

For dessert, order fruit, sherbet, sorbet or sugar-free ice cream. Choose maybe two nights when you get any dessert you want, but be sure to be extra vigilant with your entrees on those nights.

Rather than try to count points through your vacation, just be very careful with your choices. When I read a menu or look in the fridge for something to eat, I always think, "What's the best choice that I can make for myself right now?" If you can at least maintain your previous loss, you've done very well. Good luck and enjoy your trip!:)

I walked every day 2 miles around my resort every morning before the family woke up some times 3 miles takes me 45 minuts to do 3 and I eat my way through disney:lmao: I have to watch my weight but I eat really only protein and vegtables and oatmeal ( the real stuff and no sugar ) two weeks before I leave.... never gained a pound at Dianey.... I can't personally limit my choices in disney on my dinner selection, I indulge and walk it off in the morning and at the parks.... Good luck, weight watcher is a wonderful program to stick to in disney because it all a point system.. have a lovely time:wizard:

I am starting my 16th week on WW and going to WDW in 41 days. I have lost 21 lbs so far and have about 21 to go. My thoughts on what I will do when in the World: Enjoy, I am on vacation. I will sample but not finish. I too am on the dinning plan and my downfall is sweets, so dessert at every meal is hard. But I know I do not have to finish my dessert as I will have another the next day. I also agree with a pp that you should ask for all dresing and sauce on the side. Also planning ahead is a great idea. Look at the menus and decide before hand what you would want from each restaurant. And remember we also have 49 extra a week! Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Unless Liberty Tree is lunch, Sci-Fi and Whispering Canyon are the only two places you'll even get a menu. All your other ADRs are buffets.

SO, the ball really is in your court. Can you look at and smell all that food and be reasonably "good" or will it do you in?

If I truly wanted to keep myself in line (which I'm not sure I would want to at WDW), I'd start each and every buffet with salads and clear soups. Then I'd wait (hopefully characters will come around) and let that settle. Since I would then be beginning to feel full, I'd get small servings of 2-3 things that I REALLY wanted and then just one or two small bites of a couple desserts. If you watch "thin" people at buffets, they hardly ever have a heaping plate of food. They get what they really want and enjoy their meal and the company.

Please, please, please do not tell yourself you've not eaten your money's worth. Think of all the money you've spent on WW and how you'd hate to waste all that with a week of eating on vacation.

Eating one wing will be impossible, they are the best wings ever. You will not be able to resist those wings, that is my only advice, I am doing WW too, the only thing I say is if you are going to eat in Disney at OHANA, just let it go for that night, that is my favorite restaurant at Disney,, OMG the food is soooooo good, you will not be able to eat ONE WING, I could eat 50. Anyway, doing WW while there will be tough, I just wanted to keep it real, because I have tried to stay on my diet going to Disney, forget it, I just tried to stay as focused until the wings came out. Did I mention how good those wings are??

I realize I have been no help. :(

im going to just go with the flow. portion control. ill order a rueben at sci fi drive in, but ill only eat half of it. and im going to eat a dessert at every meal, but just eat half of it! and i dont plan on feeling guilty.
ill prolly gain a pound or two, but ive come so far and ive had this trip planned FOREVER that im not going to let it bother me!
there are quite a few WW threads on this board you should find, everyone is very supportive!
