Weight loss surgery and dining at WDW....any tips or tricks or words of advise?

This September will be the first trip to Disney World for both my husband and I since our Lap band surgeries. I will be 10 months out on mine and DH will be 5 months out on his. Anyone who has had any type of WLS have any tips and tricks for us concerning meals, snacks and hydration? I already plan on opting for a bottled water to take along with us at CS and TS meals since we aren't supposed to drink fluids with our meals.

Congrats on your surgery!

We went in April with my mother-in-law, who was 8 months past her gastric bypass surgery. It was very easy for her to order salads almost everywhere in the world. She also brought snacks for those in between times (like 100 calorie snack packs or granola bars). You can also split a pizza or get fresh fruit in several places in the parks.

For dinners and sit down meals, she often split an entree or large sandwich with someone else or just gave half her order to a bigger eater at the table. You will have no problems splitting plates between the two of you. Many restaurants even split the plates for us - saves time and money!

Thanks for the response. I really like the fresh fruit options. I know there's a spot in MGM on the "road" that takes you to ToT where you can get it but where do you find fresh fruit in in Magic Kingdom other than inside the restaurants?
 
Im nine and a half years out on my Gastric Bypass and I still share meals with my husband today. We each get a drink and ask to split a meal at sit downs and then if hes stil hungry he gets dessert. At counter service we split unless its something like a hamburger or chicken. Then I get my own and throw away what I dont finish. I can eat a lot more than the 1/2 cup of food I ate the first few years but still less than a full meal. I can eat close to a childs portion most of the time. Most meals are so huge it works well to share and he never even had surgery. We do eat more often though. I still like to eat close to 6 times a day.

I dont have the problem with not drinking while eating (Different type of surgery I guess) I would for sure carry a back pack full of water every day!! cant get enough of that.

I did get to go to WDW when I was 6 months post op. That trip was more tricky because so much would upset my stomach. I tried to only take a bite of things he had to be sure it would work ok. I always tried to be as normal as possible.
 

i had gastric bypass in august of last year, DH and i went without the kids in april and split everything. I still try to stay away from all sugar and watch the carbs and eat my protein. I also purchased a gallon of milk so i could have my protein shakes every morning for breakfast and kept lots of water on hand. we are going again in august with the kids for free dining, i just know i wont eat that much, but its FREE!! :rotfl:

LOL....September is our month as well and that's why! With two teens going along we'd be poor otherwise! I just gotta let that old feeling go about wasting food! We are planning on splitting a couple meals anyway just so I won't feel THAT wasteful.

Just curious, how much can you eat now and will the amount always stay the same?

When at proper restriction level I am told I should be satisfied and unable to eat more than a cup of food per meal. That's almost where I am right now but I do have my times when I can eat more. I believe the consistency has a lot to do with it. Just like with any of the weight loss surgery types it is possible to eat more over time by stretching the pouch or by learning what goes through the pouch quicker (think chocolate and ice cream). Lap band is the least invasive WLS there is and the speed of weight loss is certainly slower. It's a lot of work as I still exercise and count calories and protein BUT it certainly gives me the edge to lose weight and keep it off whereas I have never been able to do it with any diet or pill in my 42 years! Thanks for the interest and sorry for such a long winded response!!
 
Great thread! My husband is 7 months post lap band. We are going next year and plan to do a lot of sharing of meals. I think that buffets will be kind of a waste on him - so we will probably steer clear of those.
