So the DH and I are on a weight loss program. What Im wondering is if anyone is in a similar situation. Did you just throw caution to the wind? (after all it IS your vacation!) Or are there things you could do to enjoy the food experiences without actually gaining weight? hehe Any tips would be great too

Hi Natralee,

I think you can still stick to your plan and still eat some tasty things. If you can drink water or even maybe unsweetened iced tea instead of soda. The sodium will make you swell. Try to eat some chicken dishes and limit your pasta or heavy dishes. You should do fine and I do think you should treat yourself to a :mickeybar at least once on your trip!

Good Luck and have blast! :wizard:

Yes, lost weight while on vacation! I end anything I wanted, but DH and I always split. I'd order an appetizer or soup, he'd order an entree we'd agree on and we'd share. Never was hungry, in fact , many times couldn't eat it all!
Had dessert everyday, never skipped a meal, had funnel cake and mickey bar (1 of each)

But boy, did we walk!!! We got to each park when it opened, park hopped, and would go back in the evening.

I noticed my pants a little looser around the middle of the vacation, and figured I was losing a little.

Also lost weight on the disney cruise. Gotta walk!

ok - first off.....DH and i are just moderately over weight, no serious health concerns.......if this were not the case, i would stick to the lifestyle of whatever dietary restrictions are necessary.

that being said. all bets are off when we are vacationing, especially at WDW. we don't go crazy, but if we want something, we eat it.

at approx. 7pm EST on Sept 26th if you all hear a loud noise - that is DH and I slamming out of ketosis as we shove carbs in our mouths. vacation starts for us as soon as that car pulls out of the driveway.

- happy eating - lori

you might also want to post this on the WISH board. They'll be able to tell you the best places to dine if youre attemping to eat healthy!

I always make sure that I start out the day healthy. I have a very healthy breakfast - Special K or Raisin Bran (or something similar) with fresh fruit on the side and I must have a hot tea.

For lunch, I will usually have whatever I want, but I will try to share a meal with my DS12, so that cuts out the calories too.

Dinner - all bets are off!

Drink lots of water!!

I tend to cheat a little more as I know I'm burning alot of calories during the day with the heat, with drinking lots of water and walking.

Remember this though:

On a diet, on a normal daily lifestyle eating lower intakes of calories and/or carbs is a good thing.

However when you need energy you may need to increase your calorie and/or carb intake. If you don't, dont be surprised if you're dragging really bad later in the day and especially trying to get up and get moving in the morning.

You dont have to go overboard but you may be able to splurge more than normal there.

They also, for your diet even in the MK fastfood areas have turkey wraps and salads at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe.

I'm a veggie lover. I'm not a strict vegetarian, but I don't like most meat. I was worried I was going to be stuck eating iceburg lettuce salads all week. Boy was I wrong. Everywhere you go there are healthy and yummy choices on the menus. I lost about 3 lbs. without even trying.

Regardless of what you eat, all the heat and walking is going to equal it out. I've never gained weight at Disney and actually lost 5 pounds last time and ate whatever I wanted. I just couldn't diet at Disney.

JMHO----I would just try to make some healthy choices and not get too worked up about it. We always stay away from juices, lemonades and empty drink calories. We stick with water, crystal light, and a few diet sodas. At dinner we stay away from the breads and pastas. We will occasionally have a few french fries or a few bites of potatoes but not much and we always, always have dessert--usually we split it but they are sooo big!!!!! I think I would feel too deprived and not on vacation if I didn't allow myself to have a few bites of creme brulee, choc. lava cake or choc. mousse!!!

Good luck and have a great trip!!!

I have been on the low carb diet since the end of May. I've lost 18lbs. I am going to continue it at least till my Disney trip in November/December.

Regarding the trip, I'm going to play it by ear. I don't want to ruin my trip by counting carbs but I will pick sensibly. I will pick and choose my treats! I don't want to feel deprived.

I also know that walking all week at WDW has always made me either loose weight or stay the same no matter how much I eat. There's ALOT of walking at WDW.

I'm not going to stress about it.

Regardless of what you eat, all the heat and walking is going to equal it out. I've never gained weight at Disney and actually lost 5 pounds last time and ate whatever I wanted. I just couldn't diet at Disney.

My feelings exactly. With all the walking I do at Disney World, I have hardly ever gained weight and if so, just a few pounds. I work very hard exercising and watching what I eat at home and have lost 60#. I have lots to go. I have a goal I'm working on for November and I'm very determined to make that goal or get as close as I can. Then I will still have more weight to lose, but I will eat what I want and ENJOY it at Disney.

We do not over eat though. There's no way I can eat 3 meals a day. One meal is usually a light snacky thing, and then I make two PS meals. Usually about at least 6 hours apart. Like, either a light breakfast, lunch and late dinner, or brunch, early dinner and snack in the evening. I just don't deny myself anything and I don't overly stuff myself either. And with all the walking I do, I usually end up with no gain, which on a vacation is fine for me.

One thing to consider though, if you have been dieting awhile and simply aren't eating certain foods like burgers and fries or Fettucini Alfredo, or ice cream, etc, eating them will give you the runs.

I have been on South Beach for two years. Last year when we were in Disney I did not really cheat. I went to Cape May Cafe and ate very little of what I wanted at the buffet... only had 1 Dole Whip.... did without so many things we enjoy only at WDW. I spent the better part of several months complaining about how I passed up on SOOOOO much! This past May I took a different approach.... I had my "dole whips".... enjoyed my meals ....

as others have said....

DRINK water.... and you WILL be walking off all those calories.... Enjoy your stay there! Don't have any regrets when you are back at home... If you gain (and I do not believe you will) you can very easily start fresh. We go to WDW at least twice a year and I have to admit.... when I did not allow myself the pleasures that I can only attain there.... I felt so bad and I would not do that again....

We are going for a four day weekend in 27 days... and I WILL be having my "Disney Treats"

I guess I'm weird when it comes to this subject...I diet, starve and exercise myself into a frenzy, just so I can eat whatever I want at WDW!! I always buy my vacation clothes a size too small so I have a goal.

Thanks all! This was some great advice. The husband and I have been on our program for 6 months now and still have 6 to go. We are committed to changing our lives and eating habits but I confess Im still a big indulger when it comes to all things chocolatey! It's good to know there will be lots of lighter options though. :cool1:

My plan is to eat sensibly. I'll try not to get lots of fatty, fried foods, make sensible breakfast and lunch choices and somewhat sensible dinner (if you call steak somewhat sensible) and then allow myself dessert everynight. Plus I plan on drinking lots of water. If I gain a few pounds, I'll just have to work extra hard when I get back, but I'm going ot enjoy my vacation and Disney desserts!

The last time we went to WDW Sept. 03, I was on Weight Watchers and had been doing really well so I was nervous about gaining back some of the weight... However, I said this is vacation and I should allow for some weight gain... I didn't go completely nuts, but I also had my :mickeybar and ate at Chef Mickey's for B & D... I came home to find out that I lost another 3.6 pounds!!!
I now am a lifetime member and lost 67 pounds (size 4 baby!!! :cheer2: )
So, I am sure you will do fine!!!!! Good luck!!!

If you have been on a program for 6 months you will not want a lot of the stuff you worry about anyway.

I lost weight in June from all the walking and we ate out more than we usually do. (We usually cook in the cabins at FW) When we go in Dec I am planning an eating extravaganza!! :cool1:

It's vacation! Have a GREAT time!
