WeGo Shop or renting a car

Our flight arrives in Orlando around 10am in April. I read check in isn't until 3. We are staying at VGF. Would it be better and more convenient to order food from WeGo shop, or rent a car and go get our own since we will have the gap in time? Has anyone used WeGo shop...thoughts? What about renting a car through Alamo at the Dolphin? We have been to Disney multiple times and have never rented a car. Is there a Wal-Mart or other stores nearby? How is the shuttle service?

Thanks in advance!

Check in isn't until 4 - and may be later. Sometimes rooms aren't ready until 7pm - or later.

We don't plan our day around check in - we plan our day around flights - if we have an early flight - we drop our luggage with bell services, "check in" - get our room keys but sometimes not our room - and head out to do something with our day - with a 10am flight, you'll likely be hitting the "do something" part around noon. You can visit a park, you can go to DTD, you can hit a waterpark, you can go resort touring, you can have lunch at Beaches and Cream, you can pull your swimsuits out of your luggage and spend the day at the pool - there are lots of things you can do with your day other than waiting for check in - or going grocery shopping.

We Go Shop will drop your groceries will Bell Services, who will hold it until your room is ready - they even have a fridge for the stuff that needs to be in a fridge.

To me, cars and cabs get expensive for a grocery trip - and its time consuming - I'd rather change into swimsuits in the bathroom and spend the afternoon in a lounge chair.

If you want to get on with your vacation, Wegoshop is wonderful - I've used them twice, and they will shop at whatever store you prefer, and get lots of stuff on sale - you just need to get them a detailed list of preferences as per the website - as pp said, they will store your groceries at the resort if your room is not ready. We have been fortunate in the past that our room was ready before lunch (usually they assign a room to us on check in, but we always ask what rooms are ready and decide if we want to change the location of our pre-assigned room so we get in sooner - they will do that no problem at check in). For the fee for Wegoshop it's worth it since renting a car for a day is usually $40, plus gas, plus my time. If you do decide to rent, there is a Car Care Centre with Alamo and National on Disney property, they will pick you up at your resort to go get your car, and drop you off when you return it wherever you like on property. We like this rental location because the gas station is literally beside the parking lot of the rental facility, so it's easy when returning the car.

We LOVE getting WeGoShop to get all our groceries so we can get down to enjoying our time at WDW and not have to fuss with getting to Walmart or Publix. :cool1: We have driven before and had to go get groceries and supplies and now that we've tried WeGoShop we will never do that again even if we do drive! Its a time/stress saver for us!

Sounds like we will be using WeGoShop and enjoying our day without the hassle of shopping!! Thanks for the input!!

If you only need a few things and aren't picky about brands and such, use wegoshop. If you want to outfit for many meals and want to choose your brands and such then rent a car.

I use Dollar over at the hotel across from DTD. they have a shuttle or you can just walk over from DTD. Always cheap for a day.

We prefer to rent a car, shop when we want, where we want with no mistakes. We also eat a meal offsite and take our time.

We are from a different part of the country - and brands are not necessarily nationwide. So much of the shopping we do when we are in a different state involves using a brand we wouldn't necessarily use at home. I find out of state shopping to be frustrating - heck, shopping at a different store than where I usually shop is often frustrating - its laid out differently, it doesn't always carry the same things.

Garden Grocer allows you to shop from a limited list - mostly national brands.

I go on the Publix website, where WeGoShop can go, near Disney, and nearly everything in the store can be found through a search (either by word or category, such as Dairy). This makes compiling my list easy...just cut and paste.

It's not either or. I usually do both. My time (and energy) on vacation is precious. I am not going to spend a bunch of time in an unfamiliar store to save a few dollars on arrival day. As travel days are already enough hassle, I don't want any more. I tend to use Garden Grocer (I like their ordering model better than WGS') but WGS would be fine too. The extra cost is worth it to me.

I generally order less than I think I'll need for the week. After I'm in the swing of things, I don't mind driving up to the store on an afternoon break, but I don't want to do it on arrival day.
