I LOVE this display, and the whole Mexico shopping pavillion. On our trips to Mexico (when we aren't in the World) I always pick up a little figurine. I believe they are for the Dia de los Muertos which is a holiday in Mexico and some other Latin American countries where they remember friends and relatives that have passed. I have a little collection and hopefully will remember to pick one up in WDW this December.

They are actually called alebrijes. They were thought up by a mexican guy named Pedro Linares who was a paper mache artist that thought dreamt about them during a bout of illness. My wife studied abroad and did some mission work in Mexico for 5 months when she was in college, so I can't really take credit for this knowledge. ;)

Where is and who is Jambi???

:rotfl: Jambi is from Pee-Wee's Playhouse. He's this....head in a box sort of thing, like a genie almost? He sings this special chant when he is going to grant a request:

Meka-leka hi meka hiney ho, Meka-leka hi meka chaney ho, Mola-meka chala meka hola hayla hey!!

Oh man, definitely brings back memories from when I was a kid. :goodvibes

Good to know they aren't the same thing. Maybe I won't be adding one to my collection after all!! In Mexico, we always buy these guys (see link below) which I know are figurines for the Dia de los muertos for the altar that is assembled in the memory of your loved one.

Here is the best site I could find with what I was talking about---seeing the little skeleton guys in Laura's photo I just assumed those in the Mexico pavillion were the same.
