Does LA experience bad traffic jams on the weekends as well as the weekdays? We will be heading South from LAX around 5pm on Saturday night. I know things can happen such as accidents, etc. that can't be predicted , but what is the usual traffic like on the weekends?

It will be busy, but not terrible. It's nothing like going during the week and getting stuck in rush hour. The busiest part will be while you are still in LA county as the there are fewer lanes. Once you get to Orange County, the road magically becomes nicer and wider and traffic flows much better.

Hi GFam1sttimers,
There can be heavy traffic jams on weekends too. It's unpredictable but it does happen often, even on Saturday and Sunday. Now, you mention that you're coming from LAX. Are you driving from the airport itself? If so, you won't really be using the I-5 and the best route involves carpool lanes. If you have more than two people in your vehicle, then those carpool lanes come in handy.

From LAX, I would recommend the 105 East to the 605 South to the 91 E to the I-5 South. The longest segment, the 105, and part of the 91, have carpool lanes. I hope that helps a bit. Good luck with the rest of your trip planning! :goodvibes

I saw the I-105 option on google maps but had no idea what I was looking at so this information is VERY helpful!!!:worship:

So we arrived a little later than planned and decided to go visit the walk of fame and see the Hollywood sign...husband is a huge movie buff so this was awesome for us! The bad part LA TRAFFIC STINKS...I don't know how you locals deal with it. I literally felt like I was going to have a heart attack half the time. And there were indeed traffic jams even on the weekend. I would like to confirm though that once you get out of LA county...the traffic does get MUCH better as a previous poster mentioned...so just be patient and know it will get better soon.
