We planned to go to Universal this fall but a job change meant we cannot take time off during the week. We're now looking at Dec, Jan, Feb. We would arrive late Friday and need to leave Sunday afternoon. Looking at the crowd calendars I'm not seeing any weekends below a 5/10. I've search all year and it seems like weekends are never "slow".

So when would you recommend? Or does it never get any better? We would get the onsite hotel front of the line pass, would that make a significant difference in our experience?

Being onsite would definitely made your experience better, no matter the crowds. If I had to choose a weekend I'd choose January 20-22 or December 2-4 in that order. If seeing the Christmas stuff is important to you, then you'd have to go in early December. If Christmas stuff isn't important, I'd choose the January dates.

I'm curious about 12/2-4 vs. 12/9-11. The crowd predictions look identical, so I'm leaning toward that later date (more time to plan). Is there a reason why you would pick 12/2 before 12/9?

IMO the closer you get to Christmas the more crowded it will be.
