Weekend in August worth it?

DH and I are celebrating our 10th next month. We're tossing around the idea of using our sky miles to fly out to DL without the kids.

Is it really crowded out there in August? And how is the weather? I'm from SC, so I'm used to the heat, but I know I would not want to go to WDW in this heat.

We'd be in the parks on a Friday and Saturday? Will it be unbearably crowded?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

We went in late August last year (probably after most schools were back in session) and we did fine. The crowds were minimal - the longest line was for POTC @ 20 mins. and that's only because it broke down. We didn't do any of the bigger rides though (small children) so I don't know how those lines were. The weather was nice, high 80's most of the time.

We have done mid August the last two years, last year we left DLR on the 24th. It was hot, dry hot and very crowded. Going again on the 12th this year. Anytime is a great time, but expect it to be busy.

this is OT but is it a little sad to be at disneyland with out your kids?

No way! I LOVE going to DL without DD! It's nice to go and have fun and relax and not have to worry about kids and strollers and all that other stuff. Don't get me wrong, I love taking DD to DL, but kid-free time is good to have every once in a while too. :)

To answer the OP - Friday-Saturday in early to mid August will be really crowded. It might not be as bad towards the end of August, because the schools will usually be back in. The ones around here all start on the 13th, I think.

Happy Anniversary! :)

Thanks for the bump! :)

And thank you all for your replies.

Lori, I have mixed emotions about going without the kids. One part of me would enjoy being able to go with DH, do what we want to do and take all the DL pictures I want to take. Another part of me will miss my kids terribly, but I would miss them regardless of where we go. I would feel more guilty about going to WDW without them.

My kids love WDW. And I know that both of them would want to know why they can't go on Living with the Land and Kilaminjari Safaris and on and on.

I am saving for a trip back to WDW Thanksgiving 2008. And we were just there last Thanksgiving.

But it's our 10th anniversary. And we want to have a nice weekend on our own. And my kids would be having a blast with their grandma and grandpa.
