We're heading to DLR for DW's birthday (1/10) on the above listed dates (Sat-Sun, part of Monday). Our original plan was to go Sun-Mon and depart on Tuesday but a change at work will require me to be back on Tuesday. My question is what are the weekend evenings like during this time of year (and in general too)? Our biggest day will be Sunday but we should be there too for most of Saturday.
The reason I ask is that we were at DLR during the Friday of that weekend this year (Jan 9), but once the sun went down, the crowd seemed to be flooded with local teenagers and such, making it more of a mall-like atmosphere rather than a family theme park. DW wasn't too happy about that and we headed back to the hotel at about 8pm (fortunately, the parks had been relatively empty, other than Toy Story, for the previous two days). Since the bulk of this trip may be spent on a weekend, I just want to make sure we aren't signing up for a madhouse weekend. Usually we have the ability to take a trip like this midweek and avoid crowds, but not so this year. However, I do recognize that we will have the benefit of longer park hours and the parades/fireworks that we missed previously.
