First of all, thank you to everyone who replies to my posts! You are all so kind and informative. I really appreciate all your help w/ my Disney planning! I think I need to back out of my 12/5 DW trip b/c of Pop Warner Week. Really want a fun, crowdless week for my dd9 and my ds6...my dh does not want to go so I am going solo w/ the kids! I really don't think I can handle a bunch of cheering teens... We do stay off site and rent a car. This year, we also want to do Universal and Sea World. What do you think about the week right after Thanksgiving... 11/28 to 12/5? Will that week be filled w/ crowds? Who has gone that week in 2008 and what was it like? THANK YOU!!

We were there last year. We flew out the day after Turkey Day. That weekend was crowded but not too bad to me. The Monday after the weekend was great no crowds. We went to AK and didn't have to use a fastpass. I think the longest we waited in a line was fot the Nemo show. and that was about 35 mins. Had great views of the parades the whole week. We stayed at Pop (loved it). For the weekend our room was pretty far away from everything. Monday morning we asked for a closer room and our wish was granted.
The parks a beautiful for Christmas and everyone is filled with Christmas Cheer, so my advise is BOOK it and Go, have fun and be Merry in the best place in the WORLD!

We always go the week after thanksgiving and the crowds are usually light.

This week has gotten much more popular, especially since they moved the Osborne Lights from the start of the MVMCP to the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The longer you can wait after Thanksgiving the better. By Monday the crowds will lesson.

You do NOT want to go then....

shhhhh keep it a secret, it is a great time to go.

Well, I'm going to be there from the 6th through the 12th, and the selfish side of me says yeah, definitely change it ;).

But really, the Pop Warner kids are only a PITA at the All Stars, you barely notice them in the parks. I'm not sure you're going to see a big difference in crowds with those two weeks, especially with the turkey day crowds still thinning out.

We go every year around that time, it's fun :thumbsup2.

We are planning a trip then, too.
What are the Pop Warner kids?

Are you planning for the 5th to the 12th or the week be4? The 5th-12th is when the POP kids will be there. I have read so many diffent things about how those kids can affect the trip...some good some real bad. They are a group of cheerleading, football kids who come each yr to compete. Supposedly, they spend their days at the competition and their nights at the parks. They stay at the value resorts and I've read that they "cheer" until 3a.m. They also stay at one of the moderate resorts too ?? If you are staying on-site, find out where they are staying 1st be4 you book b/c again, I've read "you don't want to stay where they are". Mostly I have read that they don't affect crowds too much, some say they hardly notice. I think those who had neg. things to say may have had an incident or had the unfortunate luck of staying at one of the hotels they were in. I think I am going to keep the week I've booked (5th-12th) and really hope for the best. I'm staying off-site w/ a car so I think that is a real good thing! Hope I have helped!! Enjoy Disney!

That's when we went last December and we had a great time! Yes, it was busier than when we went in February, but we never had any problems doing what we wanted to do!

So you went during POP week or be4? If during POP, how crowded would you say the parks were? 1st 2 weeks of Dec. are supposed to be "quiet"...is that just not the case?

thanks!

We arrived on thanksgiving evening 11/27/2008 and stayed until 12/3/2008.
Our first day in the parks was Friday 11/28 Hollywood Studios. That day was the most crowded - mainly at Toy Story Mania at rope drop and Osborne Lights after 6pm. Otherwise not that bad. Starting Saturday 11/29, we were surprised how uncrowded it was. We had a wonderful time. We did arrive at rope drop each day and followed our touring plans. Very mild temps and only 1 day of rain (luckily on our DTD shopping day). I think it's a great time to go.:thumbsup2

Thank you. What is "rope drop" and why do you arrive there each day? Also what's DTD? I am not good w/ all these letters people use! After the weekend, how were crowds m-f of that week? How long would you say you waited for an attraction, say Space Mt.?

DTD stands for Downtown Disney. Rope drop just means getting to the park a little bit before it opens, so that you are ready to go right in when it opens. Sorry for the lingo.
We only stayed until Wed of that week. No parks for us on Wed since we had a noon flight. Monday and Tuesday were great, really every day after that busy Friday was great. We used "fast pass" for Space Mountain and any other attractions that we wanted to do that had fast pass available. Fast Pass is sort of like a timed entry ticket. You go to the ride you are interested in, insert your park ticket and a timed entry ticket will come out telling you when to come back for your ride. When you come back you may have a small wait, but we never had to wait for more than 15 min when using a fast pass. Some attractions don't have a fast pass available. I think our longest wait of the whole trip was about 30 min for Haunted Mansion (no fast pass).
I really suggest you get the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. It is an invaluable resource book and you will learn so much. I also subscribed to the Tour Guide Mike website when planning our trip. You can find lots of good info at www.allears.net for free.
Enjoy your trip!

Njacob. I wanted to share with you that if you go to the discussion boards home page and type in the search field for abbreviations, you should be able to pull up all the abbreviations that people use on these boards. I use it as my 'cheat sheet' and it's been invaluable because the abbreviations were really confusing me too. I hope this helps!
