Elaine (Boomdocker) & Allison (Allie) do Disney!

Travelled to Gatwick 09/01 and took advantage of Virgin's twilight check in, brilliant, and got one of those pairs of seats towards the back!! Checked in at the travel lodge for the night. Saturday we got up leisurely and ate at Frankie & Benny's before catching the flight which went by with no mishaps.

Transferred to our hotel, AKL, we had visited it before but never stayed but we were still blown away by the whole appearance of the place. We had a standard room booked and were thrilled to discover we had recieved a free upgrade to a savannah room ($75 dollars a night extra!) Room was fab, a long way from the main entrance but I am not complaining. Had plenty of giraffe, zebra, cattle and gazelle to look at. Died and gone to heaven.

Sunday - Did EPCOT. Test track was as good as ever. Mission space was interesting. I didn't feel too great for the first couple of days so was a bit worried about doing this, however, I didn't want to not do it. Well, the minute the thing started all I could think was 'I am gonna be sick!' A very strange experience. If you are in any doubt there are lots of tips along the way to make it bearable. I am glad I did it but am not sure I would feel the need to do it again.

Monday was MK. Did all the usual rides, lunch at Casey's, saw the parade. Saw Philharmagic, very funny and excellent 3d effects anothe must do. Left early still felt yuck.

Tuesday had a lie in, breakfast on the balcony (who hoo) feel much better and went over to DD around noon. Did ALL the shops, had dinner at Wolfgang Puck's and then headed over to Cirque du Soleil. Best £89 I ever spent. If in any doubt - do this show!! First class family entertainment.

Wednesday went to AK. A relaxing day, one of my favourites. Straight round the safari after grabbing a fast pass on the way. Breakfast in Harambe, then straight back on safari using the fastpass obtained earlier. A great way of seeing the animals early before the sun gets too high. Then round the walks. Did the bird show, its cute and you get to sit for half an hour.

Thursday MGM. My fave. Tower of Terror here I come!!!!! Its really quiet and I get to ride three times in a row!! My only little gripe, bring back the lap bar, your supposed to come out of your seat aren't you??

Friday spent the morning at DQ. Looked at my watch and realised that we had spent 2 hours on the games, the time really flew. In the afternoon we headed back to MK to catch the Wishes fireworks we had missed earlier in the week, these are a must see. We found a really cool place to sit as well. Can't remember what it's called but this is how you get here. Head up main street towards castle, when you get to the last store, turn right and directley in front of you is a covered seating area (Astro something?) There is some seating that is like a balcony over the water that has an uninterrupted view of the castle, you sit at a chair and table, no one gets in the way, clear view, why has it taken me 5 holidays to find this?? Try it, it was fab.

Saturday we spent the morning at the resort as we had to meet the bus to the cruise at midday. Lots to see at the lodge, plenty of look outs, guides and seating areas to enjoy the whole experience. We had breakfast at Boma's which was buffet style which was superb. Had the buffet dinner as well. The food there was beatifully presented etc but was not to my personal taste. It was nice to try something different. The CM's were great. Bus service was excellent, we had heard mixed reviews for this resort but could not fault it.

Overall, it was a deluxe that we thought we would never afford. The whole experience was fantastic, obviously the upgrade enhanced the experience but I am hooked and hope to return one day.

Week 2 - The cruise, to follow.

I love the safari too and could go on it a zillion times in a row.......thanks for the reports on the restaurants too.......

We got an upgrade too....from standard to deluxe savannah...made it an extra magical stay! I think all the planets in the universe were aligned just right for this to happen:sunny:
