I am starting to put together my Save the Date's which will be a postcard with a magnet attached. I will probably send them out late January or early Feb., once I have a finalized guest list.

We live in New Jersey and are getting married in Vegas. I have some co-workers who have told me they won't be able to come, but would still like to be invited. Should they get save the dates? Or just invites?

Also, my father's family all say they won't to go to Vegas. I'm fine with that. I have one uncle who may be able to come. I'd like to send him an STD, but then I feel weird about excluding the other relatives. What if they change their minds? My mom said I should just send them wedding announcements.

I got a good deal on the magnets and cards, so I will have plenty of STD's to send out. So I don't want to exclude anyone. I just don't know the proper etiquette.

I would send them out. congrats and happy planning!

Sorry, I couldn't get past the STD's :rotfl:

yeah I know, I'm immature ;)

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

If you have plenty of "Save the Date" cards, I would send them out to everyone that you would plan on inviting if the wedding were held locally. Even though some folks have told you that they're not coming, that decision may not be made in stone and they MAY change their mind down the road. You certainly don't want to unintentionally offend someone or hurt their feelings by not sending them a STD card.

Best wishes!!

ETA, yeah the "STD" makes me giggle too. I know, I need to grow up. :)

I would send STD cards to everyone, even if you know they can't make it. You never know, things could change and the ones who couldn't make now may be able to. You know, the more they see the magnet hanging there the more they may consider going.
Besides, it can't hurt if you have enough to go around.

LoL! Thanks all.

I just got tired of typing out Save The Date. :) I'm immune to it since they say "STD" so much on wedding websites.

I guess if you are planning a wedding they figure you have already tested negative for "STD"'s :lmao:

I guess having the wedding so far from home is a good way to keep those pesky unwanted (but you had to invite anyway) relatives from showing up.

My cousin just did an RSVP with her save the date--I thought that was weird. But since they are following up with invites--they will have a better idea of what the guest list will look like and invite from there.

Not sure if that is correct or not.

Your co-workers may change their mind, so you could give them a save the date...if you have enough. It wouldn't hurt.

We actually don't have any family that live near us. They have to travel no matter what. Some of them are in their late 80's, so they wouldn't be able to travel anyway. I think others are dissapointed because they wanted to make a trip to NYC for our wedding. Funny thing, I think I have been telling them for a while it would either be Vegas or Disney, not sure why they were planning on NYC. They may come around and change their minds. :)

Actually, from what I read on theknot.com boards, it's the pesky relatives that will travel anywhere, and even invite themselves to the wedding. LOL!
