Hi all! About a week ago I asked all you old pros for some advice on my honeymoon cruise (I hope I post this link right)

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=527563&highlight=+erin

Well, my dear future husband of mine is just about to drive me to insanity... but in a good way! :hyper: Here is what happened.

Yesterday morn we were on the phone with his parrents (who live in West Virginia, we live in Chicago) and they mentioned that they were planning a big family cruise with Carnival Cruise Line on Jan 8 2005. They started joking around saying how wonderful it would be to bump our wedding from May 28 2005 to January and have it on the cruise. I laughed. Robbie started thinking about it. He asked me to consider it and we started talking to my family, they love the idea. Our closest friends and family on a 7 day cruise? Awesome..... only I still wanted to go on our Disney cruise for our honeymoon... Sooo we are doing both! Been talking to the TA all morning, if everything works out like we are planning right now, we will leave on the Carnival Cruise to eastern itinerary, get married, spend a week with our famlies and then on Jan 15 we will get off of the Carnival Glory and turn around and get on the Disney Wonder for our honeymoon on the western itinerary. Is this insane or what? 14 days at sea, two different cruise lines. My wedding date just plunged from 14 months to 9 and I still dont have a dress!!!! AGH! I just might go nuts from all this, but I am having fun doing it.

Anyone reading ever been married on a cruise? Any suggestions or stories? Am I truly insane to scrap all of our wedding plans, cut 100 people from my guest list and go vacation in paradise?

-Erin

PS now that I have a potential cruise date, how do I get one of those Countdown thingies?

Are you honeymooning on the 1/15/05 Magic western? I don't believe the Wonder does 7 day western cruises. We are also on the 1/15 magic. I'll keep my eye out for the happy honeymooners. It sounds like a nice, relaxing wedding to me!!

Erin - My husband and I were married in WDW May 8, 2003 (it was a Thursday) and we enjoyed a 7 night Western Cruise which left on Saturday, May 10th. It was WONDERFUL and I totally recommend it! I wasn't married on the ship but at Seabreeze Point on the Boardwalk - reception at the Living Seas in Epcot - and a dessert party in Epcot during Illuminations -- an incredible ending to our night!!! It didn't cost as much as you may think - I'm happy to share any details if you'd like more info -- Disneybridein2k3@msn.com

Hi,

You are sooooooooooo smart to go away to get married. I am getting married in July and am going CRAZY!!!!!!! I wanted to go away to get married....either WDW or Vegas but FH thought that no one from his side would attend....so we are having it in NY. Dont get me wrong, I love what I'm doing, but with all the money I am spending I could have put a down payment on a house.
Don't worry about getting a dress....you have time. Just look soon so you do not have to pay extra for a rush delivery. We are going on the 7 night magic western carribean cruise for our honeymoon and then heading off to Aruba for another week. I am looking forward to it. Lastly, if you're worried about the guest list....have a small reception when you get home or send out save the date cards.....you may have more people then you expect saying Yes!
Good luck with all your planning!

What is the wedding of YOUR DREAMS? Would you imagine just your closest friends and family in a romantic setting, or do you want all your friends in your own hometown church? Choose the one that's most similar to your dreams, or you'll regret it -- you won't do this again!

Personally, I always knew that I wanted a big church wedding. If I'd had the opportunity to do a cruise wedding, I would not have taken it -- even though it'd have been wonderful in a completely different way. I had the wedding that I wanted. On the other hand, I have a friend who was planning a wedding, then decided to elope. She says that she did the right thing, but every time a friend of hers gets married she becomes . . . um, overinvolved. She insists upon helping with all the little details, tries to shove her ideas where they aren't necessarily wanted . . . I think she's trying to make up for the wedding she didn't have herself -- she's missing something inside. I dread the day her own daughter gets married.

So . . . close your eyes and imagine the perfect wedding. Then choose based upon your own ideas.

I think that it is a great idea, you will love it, and 2 cruises sounds like a dream to me....
Congratulations.

Thank you all for your responses. After speaking with more family members last night and now reading the posts I am feeling a lot calmer than I was yesterday when I posted.

kellimomo3- Yes we will be on the western cruise on January 15! We havent booked it yet but nothing right now is set in stone.

DMS_cruisers04- Thanks for the countdown clock.

SoThisIsLove - I know exactly what you mean, while I was planning my wedding here at home I was astounded at the prices for just the smallest things. While I was planning my "fairytale" wedding I was also setting my FH and I to start our life out in debt. Having the wedding on Carnival (Although I really do wish I was doing the wedding on Disney) will be beautiful and also save us about 7 thousand dollars.

As I started calling people last night I had several types of reactions... some were excited, some were weary... people I thought that would react in one way totally reacted in another! But all said that if this is what we wanted than they would join us no matter what.

MrsPete- The wedding of my dreams? gosh, in the past few months that has changed way too many times! LOL! I think what is most important to me is that my family and best friends are near me, I have the "perfect" dress pictured in my mind of course, and to really enjoy the day. Other than that I guess I really couldnt care if I got married at a golf course, a church or a cruise ship. Thanks for the advice... (BTW, my fathers name is Pete your screen name would actually apply to my mother also! Your not really my mother in disguise are you??? haha)

So all in all I guess I am getting a bit calmer about everything but I still only have 9 months to find a dress!!! Eeek I better start shopping!

Congratulations Erin! How exciting. I hope you will come back and share with us afterward.:D

Regarding having the "wedding of your dreams," I did that in 1990. The marriage lasted less than two years.

In 1999, DH and I had a spur of the moment wedding during a Valentine's weekend trip to NYC - no family, friends, or fancy clothes. Five years and two beautiful children later, it just gets better and better every day. I wouldn't change a thing.

My point is, the wedding is not the most important day of your life, but every day after it. Don't sweat the details and have a MAGICal time with your loved ones!:bride:

moinab- Thank you so much for your kind words. You are absolutely right, but so much focuses on the fact of having a perfect memory. 15 years from now I know it wont matter what color my flowers were but... today I might worry a bit about it:D Thanks for your well wishes.

go for it, I had the dream wedding, but the honeymoon was awful!! We are still happily married, but we did a all inclusive resort in St. Lucia - no romance! I have more than made up for it with all our trips to ST. Maarten. If I were doing what you are doing, I think I would do the first cruise, then do something totally different the second week. But back to back cruises does sound like fun also!! Congrats and good luck
