Hi everybody!

I've been reading Carrie's PassPorter on Weddings, but I'm still feeling a bit overwhelmed on one question:

Is it possible to have a meal with all of my (20-30) guests for under $1,000?

I'm looking for reception alternatives, as an Escape bride (18 guests for that, then possible extras for the party). It will probably need to be a lunch, since most of the Escape times are early in the day, but dinners are totally acceptable, too. Or even a dessert party.

But how do I do it for $1,000 or less?

Any help is appreciated! :goodvibes

So $33/person then if you have 30 people. For 20 people, you have $50/person. We have about 30 and plan to have a rehearsal dinner at 'ohana, which we estimate will be $40/person. Two of us will have tables in wonderland, so that brings a 20% discount for twenty of the thirty. Still, that will run us probably $1200. 30 would be hard 20 is very doable.

Private dining would be almost impossible I think because it would go over $50/person.

You can also try a dessert party at the grand Floridian, but I don't remember the minimum food expenditure there.

Good luck.

For our Escape wedding, we went to a restaurant off property (Cantina Laredo-a nicer Mexican place; our first date was at a Mexican restaurant) and had a meal where everyone just ordered off the menu. Obviously, I had contacted the manager ahead of time and he helped arrange a space for us. It cost us less than $500 for 17 of us. It helped that it was a Tuesday at 1 pm :) Having a dessert party was important to us and it just wasn't in the budget to do a catered meal at Disney plus the dessert party.

Transportation wasn't an issue for our guests, either. We only had three people who had flown; everyone else who drove down from PA helped transport the three who didn't have cars with them. Maybe you can look into doing something off property if transportation won't be a big issue for your guests?

Off property is an option if it turns out that it just won't happen on property! Guess I need to get down there to explore my options :)

I don't think transportation will be an issue. Our guests will more than likely all have transportation, and those who don't can ride with others.

Thanks for the tip!

You might also look into some of the restaurants at Downtown Disney, where you can order off the menu fairly cheaply and may have the place to yourself if it's the middle of a weekday.

That's what I was going to suggest!! Perhaps Fulton's or Bongo's for instance?

Thanks for all of the suggestions! I'm researching and putting together my spreadsheets :)

I held an Escape wedding at Disney World January 3, 2013. Disney will not allow you to cater a meal for more than the 18 people allowed at the wedding (no matter where it is in Disney World). We decided, in order to have some idea of cost, to have our reception at Boma at Animal Kindgom Lodge. It is a set price for a buffet which includes some juices, soda and coffee. I also wish I had known that I could have purchased a tables in wonderland membership (currently $100 for AP holders) and received 20% off the bill (including alcohol) for up to 10 people (20 people if your groom purchases one too which is only $50 extra). Would have saved us enough to make it worth it, and then we could have used extra discounts during honeymoon. Everyone enjoyed the food at Boma, and we received complementary champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries from the chef. We had a blast dancing to the drum music around Boma as well. Good luck in your planning, hope this idea helps!!

I had an afternoon tea reception (scones, tea sandwiches, pastries, ice tea, hot tea, fruit, etc). It was lovely and thirty a head for adults, ten a head for kids. At the Swan though. Maybe check with your planner about arranging it. Mine was a private reception following the ceremony. Alternatively you could go to the Garden View Lounge for tea for about the same price.
