Hi Disbrides,

I was wondering if any bride has bought their wedding dress from Saks Fifth Avenue? I live in Texas and Saks told me that they would ship my dress to Florida for $60 dollars after all my alterations had been made. They told me I wouldn't have to pay tax if I had it shipped which would save me quite a bit here in Texas. Has anyone ever had their dress shipped from a Saks where they live to the Saks in Florida? I think it would be a great idea but a little worried it might not make it to the wedding.
Thanks for the help.

Amy :)

I don't really know anything about it but there is sales tax here in Florida as well so I wonder why there would be no tax if having it shipped here?

Saks is so reputable I'm sure your dress would be fine. And the no sales tax would be nice! There is never sales tax if an item is shipped to a different state than the one the store is in -- even if there is a branch of that store in the other state -- because it is technically considerred an out-of-state transaction and state sales tax can only be collected for in-state sales transactions. My parents had a mail-order business when I was younger and they only had to charge sales tax if the items were being sent to someone in the same state as them. At the time we all lived in Maryland and people would get around paying the sales tax by having stuff sent to their office which was in Washington D.C.

Thanks for the information theantibride. The sales tax saves me money to use else where.

Amy :)

I bought my dress at Neiman Marcus and they were going to ship my dress to the Neiman there (but that Neiman does not have a bridal Salon) to be pressed. ow the STL Saks would not ship for me, which was part of the reason we went with Neiman, but they were not going to charge me to ship- and Neiman pressed it in STL and they touched it up for me at the Orlando store after I drove it down. I was too nervous to ship it, but I think it would have been fine. Esp if you give it enough time.

Thanks for the useful information allisonswonderland. I will have to try Neiman Marcus. Your pictures and dress are beautiful! :goodvibes

I know the sales tax in my area is 6% I believe in ORlando its 6.5% hope this helps

No problem, - glad to help you out! Our Neiman and Saks carried a lot of the same designers, the only thing is that Neiman does not have a bridal salon at every location (not sure why they do in STL, lucky for me, though)-I am not sure where they are....but I am sure you can check or may know!

Actually - the way they prepare the gowns - they stuff it like there is a body in it and honestly I drove it in a van and probably would not have even needed it touched up.
I should also mention that my bridal consultant had worked with a bride who married in San Fran Sisco and they shipped to that Neiman bridal salon for her and they pressed it.

The lady at Saks told me that not all Saks have bridal salons either. We looked up Florida and the Saks aound Orlando does not have a bridal salon. She told me they could still ship my dress to the Grand Floridian but I would have to find someone else to do the pressing before the wedding. Hopefully they will prepare my gown as good as Neiman did yours. Anything to save on that 8.25% sales tax here in Texas. :) Thanks again for your help. BTW....I'm getting married November 9th, 2007....I saw your signature and it is a year and a day apart. :)

Now I shipped my welcome bags and bridesmaids and groomsmen gifts to myself at the hotel before my arrival and they will hold them. We also had our tuxedos shipped to us. I know that your em s do not like them shipped to them-

I am trying to think of a way to help you. Carolyn Allens is a bridal shop and they will allow you to ship gowns there and they will (i belive store them, press and deliver). My moms MOB was pressed by them - I dropped it off and they delivered it, but they will even come to your room and press it there for you, but you need to book early. Hope that helps. If you need anything else, let me know. Who is your EM?

That is cool - I will be arriving at WDW Nov 9 for our anniversary trip I believe - I will have to keep an eye out for you!!!

Amy - I'm getting married November 6th! Where is your ceremony?

Question...how come your ticker says 7 months and mine says 6??

I'm getting married at the Wedding Pavilion, reception at living seas and dessert party at UK lower terrace. How exciting you are getting married just days before....Congrats!!! Let me know how all your planning is going. I am going out in June to have out planning session.

I am not sure why our tickers say 7 months and 6 months. When I look though mine won't be 6 months until May 9th. Let me know if you figure it out. :)

Thank you again for the help. I am going to have to call Carolyn Allens and see if I can get my dressed pressed there.

That is exciting that you will be in Disney when I have my wedding. Maybe I will see you somewhere. :)

That is super exciting! I'll have to keep my eye out for you :) We are getting married at the wedding pavilion...then a reception at the GF white hall room...and dessert party at morrocco terrace. Can't wait!

Ok let's figure this out. May 6th would be my 6 month mark...so my ticker would say 6 months. According to yours....if it were May 9th...it would say 7 months....you might want to see if your ticker has the right date set for it. B/c on May 9th...which is only 13 days away...yours should say 6 months. Right?

Mine was wrong....hehe....Thanks for helping me out with that. Now I am 6 months away. :)

Hi there - I don't know if this helps or not but I bought my wedding dress at the Saks in Columbus, Ohio and they sent it to the Saks in Vegas where we got married it was a load off to know that my dress would be there safe and sound and it was ready to go I didn't have to worry about getting it pressed or anything. The girl I dealt with told me she would press it before putting it in the shipping box and then they would do it again when it arrived in Vegas it couldn't have been more perfect :) Hope that helps.
