I have been invited to a wedding on Christmas Eve. I am not going because of the date chosen. However, I still want to send a nice gift. At first, I admit I thought the gift that fits all & is seldom returned...cash. Then I thought a gift card to their favorite spa for a massage. Somehow, both of those ideas seem to...I don't know...impersonal? They love to entertain, so I thought maybe a fondu set? Do people still fondue?

They have lived together for over 5 years, are in their mid-late 30's...so they have the stuff they need.:confused3

They like to go biking (bicycle), and love the outdoors...

Please, help.

Does the guy like spas though?

I asked for a fondue set for xmas. So yes, people still fondue. But they may already have a set if they like to entertain. I almost always give cash for weddings. It's usually what they want/need most.

Thank you guys. I guess I'll go with the fondue set. The last time I was over there they didn't have one.

They are both male. I'm thinking about putting money towards their honeymoon. Or is that tacky?

I don't really know much about where they are going...some place called Alcatraz (sp?) in Florida.?. I gave them cash at their groom's shower along with t-shirts that said "I'm the guy his mother warned him about", and a basket with massage oils.

I think all of the gift ideas so far are great. Money, the fondue set, and the spa certificate are all things I would have loved as wedding presents.

The new-ish trend here is to put money into the vacation account, but can you find out where they are staying and send something there? Fruit basket, or perhaps buy them a nice dinner at their resort?

Alcazar, that is. Marriage...prison...hmmm. Freud didn't know what he was talking about.:lmao:

I think money is always the most appropriate gift for a wedding. In the northeast it seems as though gifts are given at showers and money is given at the wedding.

ding ding ding. We have a winner. Cold, hard cash. I called the resort where they are staying (and well, that was an interesting call...TMI was given about the resort. :lmao: Since it is "clothing optional", I don't think they will need those t-shirts.:lmao:). They already had the rooms paid for; but the guy at the desk was so kind...am getting them gift certificates to a local resteraunt, then tickets to a show that he assured me was the "rage", and a gift basket sent to the room.

And since they are their on their honeymoon, he said that he would make sure they got special attention. I'm not sure I should have said anything about their honeymoon since the clerk didn't know.:confused3 But all I will be able to do is apologize when they get back if they didn't want the hotel to know.;)

Thanks, again.

I'd be interested to know what "special attention" one would get at a "clothing optional" resort. ;)

As far as wedding gifts, one of my favorites was Christmas ornaments. Not a box of $6.99 ornaments from Wal-Mart, but a box of nice ornaments...all clear glass or crystal. I still think of the person who gave them to me every time I put them all on the tree.

As a newlywed, give them CASH!! It really is the best gift!
