The great wedding favor debate - edible or practical? And if practical, then what? Do people really want a candle or picture frame? Anybody have any unique suggestions. Wedding theme is happily ever after (in blue) so anything cinderella/fairy tale would work but I am really trying to find something people would actually like that hasn't been done a million times. I like the idea of luggage tags but the airplane/boat I have seen really don't go with the wedding. Any suggestions are really great! (or am I way overthinking this?) :bride:

We went with edible (wedding Mickey & Minnie in milk and dark chocolate) and everyone loved that.

My cousin did a picture frame, which the couple put our table assignment in and then sent a picture of themselves with the thank-you note that fit in the frame.

Anoter great idea that a friend did was cut glass champagne flutes that she filled with chocolate kisses - so you got the edible and the practical. Each guest had a flute at their seat, so if they were a couple they got 2 flutes, which is perfect to use at home. I was in the wedding and collected the leftovers and ended up with 8 flutes so that was good for entertaining (they're divorced now and I sold the flutes at a garage sale but that's beside the point :rolleyes1 ).

There are so many things you can do but if you can combine something edible with something practical I think you'll please everyone.

Best Wishes!!

Maybe a CD with love songs or a picture montage of your and your FI. They have cinderella cd holders with matching stickers. Check out this website for suggests.

We did the Mickey glasses. We used them at the cake cutting then everyone got to keep them. I like the idea of filling them with kisses though. I also thought the hershey bars were cute. So I guess I'm in more of the edible side of it.

we did 2 favors - DVD and silver-coated chocolate hearts. I wanted to have the candy favors just in case the DVD didn't get finished (we finished burning them the morning of the rehearsal...)

I don't know if anyone realized that the hearts were edible! LOL

We are doing the cinderella slipper filled with hershey's hugs and kisses, wrapped in tulle with a white ribbon that says happily ever after, i got favor tags off of ebay with cinderella and the prince that state "hugs and kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs....thanks for making our day so special." I thought the favor tag complemented the candy. Our theme is cinderella as well. Also off of ebay I got cinderella book marks that have various sayings on each one. Each guest gets one slipper and one book mark. Hope you can find something you truly like. Best wishes!

We wanted to do edible but I was concerned on everything arriving ok from Texas so we did Crate & Barrel candle holders (they were on sale for 1.25 originally priced $9.99) with vanilla tealights inside a tulle bag with a favor tag. They smelled YUMMY!

We're doing a donation to 2 charities in the name our wedding guests. I figured that that way we can honor our grandparents who have passed away (my Gma from Parkisons, so money to the Parkinson Disease Foundation and DFi Gma from heart disease, so money to the American Heart Assoc.). That way my money will be used for something with lasting effects and that was really important to me. :)

The last wedding I thought was kind of fun. We all got a scratch-off lottery ticket.

At our wedding we gave a chocolate and Bells that people could ring when they wanted us to kiss instead of clinking glasses. The guests loved it.

StitchBride, I didn’t want to give favors away at my vow renewal. I had been to plenty of weddings & vow renewals where nothing was given away, and that was perfectly fine with me. To the events that I had attended where something was given away, I wound up throwing the items away. I would have preferred that the bride & groom kept their money and spent it on themselves.

Now, with that being said, in the final moments leading up to my vow renewal, Disney’s third-party vendor had suggested that a few items be added to my event strictly for fun: Mickey Krispie Treats, Runts candy, Ruby Slippers, disposable flash cameras, and small organza bags. The Mickey Krispie Treats would double as place cards; the Runts candy would add color as well as double as place cards; the Ruby Slippers would enhance the Land of Oz theme; the disposable cameras would be a fun touch at the Handprint Ceremony (as well as throughout the evening); and the organza bags would hold everything at the completion of my event.

Since there were only a handful of days before my event began, I had to think long and hard about adding anything to it at such a late date. I eventually gave the go-ahead since the items were indeed fun, and, if nothing else, would become conversation pieces. And that is exactly what happened.

As my guests boarded the motor coach that was taking them to the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park for the dinner party, each of them was handed a small gift bag that contained a disposable flash camera. In this photo you can see my sister holding her gift bag: click here. The gift bags were made of silver-colored organza and they closed with a satin drawstring: click here. As my guests sat down in their seats, they quickly began firing up their flash cameras and taking pictures. It was fun listening to them chatter amongst themselves, especially those guests who needed help with their flashes (not everyone realized the cameras had built-in flashes).

At the dinner party, I wasn’t sure how the Mickey Krispie Treats were going to work out. But when I sat down at the table in the Western Area, this is what I saw: click here. As promised, a place card was firmly attached to the treat. It was a cute & homey touch (and delicious, too).

When it came time to move to the Land of Oz for dessert, this is what each place setting looked like: click here. Clear, mini-purses were filled with Runts candy, and atop them sat a place card: click here. The Runts were definitely a colorful touch that fit in beautifully with the table linens. As to the ruby slippers, a pair of white chocolate slippers (colored red, of course) were placed inside a cellophane bag, and that bag was tied with a sparkly red ribbon: click here. As you can imagine, the slippers were a big hit with my guests. After all, what would the Land of Oz be without a pair of ruby slippers?

I think my favorite favor, however, was one that I had requested just a few days prior to my vow renewal. I asked my Event Manager to get Mickey Mouse Ears for each one of my guests, but I wanted those ears to be a surprise. They were to be hidden from sight until after my ceremony had completed. As my guests were being posed for the group photograph, I wanted the ears brought out. And that is exactly what my Event Manager did. And what a hit those ears were. They took everyone completely by surprise. Here are a few photographs:

Here is my all-time favorite Mouse Ears photo: click here. I loved that photo so much that I used it as the cover of a Valentine’s Day card that I sent to my guests: click here. That greeting card was my way of saying “thank you” for attending my vow renewal: click here.

So, even though I didn’t want to give favors away at my vow renewal, I’m awfully glad I let Disney gently twist my arm into doing so. Those items may have long since been thrown away, but their memories linger on in my heart.

I encourage my clients to go with whatever they'd like to recieve as a favor that best sticks with their theme.

Personally, I prefer edible. For my own carousel horse themed wedding I had white chocolate carousel horse lolipops which we then "painted" so they looked like real carousel horses.

I too debated with this ... at first I wanted to do a glass candle holder that had our names and wedding date on it ... I even found a place that would be a little over a dollar per candle holder. Then I thought about something edible - and my best friend offered to help me make homemade truffles. However, we decided we're going to donate the money we would have spent on favors to the American Cancer Society because both me and my DH2B have seen the effects of cancer first hand - his grandfather is currently going through chemo and both my father and grandmother have successfully fought the disease. I am going to make hand made cards and hopefully the frame too to place at each table with the centerpieces to let everyone know. DH2B's company will also match our donation so we'll have a nice chunk of change to send to the ACS.
