I'm posting this here, to help create chat on the boards instead of the facebook group!

So I fell in LOVE with an eco friendly wedding dress, thats going to cost me 3400$.....but I'm only having an escape wedding. This means my dress is going to cost almost the entire amount of my wedding!!! What would you do? Also because I am under a certain amount of posts I can't link you to the dress (or I would). How much did you ladies spend on your dress in relation to the cost of your wedding?

I just feel lost....

If you have the money for it and it's "the" dress, I wouldn't worry about it! Just don't tell anyone the price of the dress vs price of the wedding. You know how judgmental some people can be!

If you're that undecided though, you could always go try on a few other dresses first just to be sure that's the one you want. Or, look at it this way.... You're spending so little on your wedding, you can splurge a little extra on your dress! :goodvibes

If its something that isnt going to break the bank for you, I would say DO IT!!

You should just let the fact that you are saving money by doing an escape wedding convince you to get it rather than discourage you.

I should note that I definitely feel this way because my mother (almost 30 years later) still complains about how she regrets not getting the dress she loved because she thought it was too expensive. Hearing wedding dress regret all your life makes an impact.

I agree with these girls. If you have your heart set on it, you think it's "the one" and you can do it with your budget, go for it!! Tell people you got it on sale, tell people it cost less than it did if you think they will make you feel bad about splurging, etc. I vote go for it! :yay:

Only you can make that decision. You have to decide what your wedding priorities are and if you're having an Escape wedding and have the money and desire to splurge on the dress--- go for it!

I understand! There was a dress I really, really wanted but it was way too much. I found myself always going to try it on after I went to other stores to try on wedding dresses and kept saying that is was definitely "the" dress! If the price wasn't so much out of my range I would have bought it. Still disappointed about the price tag I went to a few more bridal stores and found myself at a bridal consignment shop. After looking around I found a dress that was kinda pushed back behind some of the other ones. When I fist looked at it I cringed. The color was definitely not a traditional ivory but I really liked the design of the gown so I added it to the pile to try on. Once I did and took a look at myself in the mirror I almost passed out. It was amazing! And the color surprisingly complimented my fish-belly white skin fabulously. Another thing was that it was the perfect size and didn't need any alterations. It seemed like it was meant to be my dress! I bought it then and there and absolutely love it! Do I still like the first, overpriced, dress...yes I do...do I regret getting the much cheaper dress that I just happened to find...absolutely not. I believe things happen for a reason and that finding the consignment shop dress was meant to be. It fits perfectly, the color compliments me, and it's the style I've always dreamed of! I love it! So if your really super worried about the overpriced dress, just keep looking. You might just find "the real" dress where you least expect it. :thumbsup2

Exactly! :thumbsup2

Personally, I would rather put that money towards something else but we all have our priorities, right? Do what YOU want. It's your day, your dress, your time to shine!

I agree with the girls in that this is completely your decision. Personally, I did not want to spend more than $1,000 on a dress that I would only really be wearing once. I wouldn't look at it as being close to the cost of your wedding because like DFTWbride2013 said, you don't need to make it known how much your dress or wedding costs. If you can afford it and it is the dress you want, then go for it. It is totally your personal decision. :)
