I found a super good deal on Airtran from Philly to Orlando

Stupid Southwest only has up to August 14th available!:headache:

$79 Departing Flight nonstop
$59 Returning Flight Nonstop

Of course now you have to pay a $15 1st checked bag fee, but it still seems like a good deal, right? I'm thinking so

Anyone take their dress on this airline? What did they do for you? Haven't decided yet if I want to ship it or not

Slightly OT from Wedding talk: anyone know if there is any funny restrictions with Disney for Magical Express & Resort Check in with this airline like there is with Southwest?

Thanks!

We fly Airtran a lot and flew down for our wedding too. I shipped my dress, so I can't say about carrying that on or not. I did carry my veil with me and they were pretty good about making sure it didn't get smashed in the overhead. I love this airline, so I highly recommend them, but they don't have a ton of extra space besides the standard carry-on storage depending on which size plane you end up on for your flight.

I just flew Airtran last week- they are one of the Magical Express check-in ones, so they'll do your boarding pass and check your bag right at the hotel. The only new thing is now with the baggage fee they will give you a phone number that you call the day before to pre-pay your bag. You just give them your confirmation number when you're checking in at the hotel.

I used to work for Continental on Nantucket - a huge destination wedding place. Almost every week I had to hunt down a wedding dress for a panicked bride.

The good thing about airtran is that they don't have any baggage agreements with anyone - so if they loose your dress it can't accidentally end up with a different airline. They are usually pretty good with luggage. However I would say its def worth the $$$ to fedex your dress down. If it gets delayed it will make you sooo upset.

P.S. I live in Philadelphia and fly on a regular basis - just because of the setup of the airport its one of the worst in the country for lost baggage. :o(

I really like them too. Any restrictions with Disney for Magical Express? I think I'm going to call them to ask about dresses

Hey fellow Philly Bride!

I was planning to take my dress as a Carry-on, not checked bag. Either that or ship it. Slightly nervous about that though. Anyone know if Airtran will hang it up for me somehwere? I'm assuming no, becuase the only have business class and don't offer first class so no first class closet

I shipped my dress to Carolyn Allen's and don't regret that decision at all. Just sent it UPS with insurance :thumbsup2 However, we had considered doing business class to carry it on because there is one overhead compartment for every two seats in business class. DH and I were just going to both fly business class to guarantee space for my dress.

Just called their 1-800 line. They do have a place to store it if I brought it as a carry-on. I would have to ask they flight attendant and it shouldn't be a problem to keep it in the uniforms closet. This is good, I just wanted to know the option was there in case I don't ship it. Yay!

I thought I post so all of you would be informed too:cutie:

That's great news!

I used to fly airtran a lot when I could non-rev. As long as you are super nice to the flight attendants they will be super nice to you. If you tell them you are flying to your wedding they will also probably give you a free bottle of champagne and upgrade you to business if there are seats open. They serve better snacks in business but thats really the only difference. Just be super smiley! :thumbsup2

I would def book with airtran. Southwests prices I am sure will be the same but they cut their flight schedule back and all of their flights and the moment they are filling to capacity. As much as I LOVE SW, I think you have a better chance of being on an emptier flight with airtran.

OK, who the heck stole my flight!!!!??? My deal of $59 is now gone within the last half hour since I posted:headache:

haha thats happened to me a few times. Just keep checking back. It is highly unlikely that that fare has sold out this far in advance. I think a lot of times the fare disapears if they put a big group reservation on hold. I would think within 3 or 4 days you should have the $59 back.

yeah buddy i like airtran we just flew with them in jan for my bday down to Disney and they were super nice w/ us and of course my daughter was screaming and they asked if they could do anything. That makes me to excited that they have a place for your dress we are getting married in 7 of2010 so i hope they still have it then!!! :) plus it is a half hour away from us to get to the airport :cool1: haha Thanks

We also live in Philly. When my wife and I flew down for our fairytale wedding, we flew Southwest. My wife's main concern on the way down was her dress. The best thing to do for it would be to buy it a seat on the plane, especially at the prices you are looking at. Southwest sold us a seat for her dress, we kept it there, and it enabled my wife and I to have a whole 3 seat row to ourselves on the way down. It takes all the uncertainty out of taking your dress down and also provides you with some more room on the plane.
