My nephew is getting married in a few weeks. DH does not own a suit or even a sport jacket. He refuses to get one or wear one at the wedding. Guess there isnt much I can do about it but it annoys me. Thanks for letting me vent.

Will the wedding be dressy?
This would bother me a lot. As a matter of fact -I would rather he stay home.

That being said -at almost every wedding I go to lately there are a few people not dressed up. (khaki pants and a golf shirt or similar)
This is in the south though
I understand weddings in Long Island are different than in GA:)

Are the guests expected to dress up?

If so, I find it very rude.

If he has no need to own one now, he probably won't have a need to wear it again. Seems like a waste of money to me... as long as he looks nice I doubt anyone is going to care. They'll all be looking at the bride and groom. Plus, it's summer. And disgustingly hot. He'd probably take it off three seconds after putting it on.

I could probably live with it if he didn't have a suit for a wedding, but what if you need to go to a funeral? I'd want him to have a suit for that. So in general, I guess I just think an adult male should own some type of suit or jacket. Part of being a grown up to me.

What is his reasoning? If it's in the budget and he just refuses for no good reason, I'd be really upset.

You can rent jackets, can't you? Would he do that?

So glad I don't have to deal with this stuff! There is NO WAY I'd be wearing a long-sleeve anything in June. Seriously... I'm sweating just thinking about it!

Will he wear a button down shirt & tie? If he will never wear the suit again I do understand not wanting to spend the money.
I'm curious as to what he thinks is appropriate wedding attire?
As another poster suggested ...perhaps he's trying to trick you into leaving him home ;)

Are you familiar with the reception venue? I ask because some venues, especially private clubs, keep a supply of dark colored men's jackets for use by guests without jackets. The gentleman is graciously ushered aside, and handed a jacket to be worn during the event.

There would be MEGA trouble for my DH if he tried to pull something like that.

I wouldn't put up with it. Seriously.

I own a suit that has been worn once, to a job interview. I just wear a shirt and tie for weddings and funerals unless I am in the wedding and wearing a tux. I just don't feel comfortable in the suit so I don't wear it unless it is a requirement of the venue, which so far it has never been.

I have never been the only man at any of them (funeral or wedding) not in a suit.

I feel just a touch of sympathy for him, because my DH doesn't "do" suits, either, except in extreme circumstances (very formal weddings and immediate family funerals, so we're talking once every five years;)). He wears them "for me", and I appreciate that.

I hope this doesn't turn into one of those "husband bashing" threads, but...

No offense, but every man should own at least one suit and/or sport coat. If they don't, what would they wear to funerals, weddings etc??

Many of the men in my family wear dress shirts with a tie to a wedding. These are Long Island weddings. Same with funerals.

Well, some really can't afford it, but OP didn't say this was the case with her and her Dh.

Meh. As long as they are well-put-together, I know I'm certainly not going to notice. And if I did notice, it would probably be to ask them "OMG, aren't you warm???" :lmao:

DH wears a suit everyday....it's 90 degrees here with very high humidity. Yeah, there are days he's uncomfortable I am sure, but he's used to it......he would not show up to work in khakis and a polo because he's warm, nor would he do that at a wedding or funeral.....it just would not be appropriate......
