Wedding confusion

What a great way to start my day. I feel so much better after reading everyone's responses. I was getting so caught up in all the changes that I really needed to take a step back and look and the whole thing and laugh.

I think I should just announce that I will be the videographer. That way I will be in possession of the AFV winning tape.

I will say no to the other girls dresses, unfortunately my mom will take on that responsibility but after all she 'only' has the wedding dress to make, as well as taking care of all the food for the reception. My mom is a caterer and a seamstress. I made fancy cakes for years before becoming a full-time dressmaker. I think the bride choose to marry my brother just to get a low cost wedding.:lmao:

We will get through it some how. I'm not expected to get a wedding gift as well, am I? If so I need a really 'good' one. Something approprate to this bride.

If I were you, I'd think about, "contracting out" the sewing and bakery duties. I'd tell her that it's in her best interest. Stress that she wouldn't want an amatuer in the role of an expert! Unless ofcourse you have a bakery business and are an expert seamstress -- then fall back on the distance and the challenges the distance alone introduces. Maybe ask some family (if there are any in her area) about some good recommendations and hand them over to her.

Good luck!

Wow...free wedding huh?

Let's see....a good gift for this occasion.:rolleyes1

How about a nice photo of her in a nice frame. Afterall it is all about her, right?:lmao:

Why did your husband agree to be the best man if he doesn't get along with your brother? I think you should run far, far away from this. If she is demanding all of this from you, then she is most certainly expecting a wedding gift.

Maybe I'm selfish, but I wouldn't do all that she is aksing, even for someone I liked!

Can't you just frost a "fake" layer (foam?_ for the cake? My best friend does this all the time for brides who want big cakes at small weddings.

Obviously your mother wants this wedding to be nice. I'd just keep repeating that "this is for my mother" over and over. Bless you for all you're doing.

You hit the nail on the head LittleTeaPot. I'm not doing it for my brother really, definitly not for Bridezella but this day is important to my mom so it is important to me. DH said yes to being the bestman because my mom asked.

20 yrs ago my mom pulled off a great 200plus guest wedding for me in only 6 weeks. She made my dress, 2 of the bridesmaid dresses and with help from some of her sisters she did all the food herself. My Grandpa peeled all the potatoes for mashed potatoes. A friend of my MIL did our beautiful wedding cake as a gift. Another guest was the DJ as a gift. Yet another took photos and my uncle did the video. DH delivered flowers from a local flower shop part time and the flower shop donated the work, DH paid for the flowers. I can't even remember who all helped us out but I do know that my wedding only cost DH and I $1500, out of pocket it was an $9000plus wedding. Whatever I can do to make this horror into a nice wedding I will as a thank you to my mom.

I've heard about this. Fake layers for the cake. I'm sure SOMEONE on the DIS knows about how to do this - or you could google it.

At any rate - good luck with all that!! Don't forget to keep us updated! :thumbsup2

Go to CakeCentral dot com for cake help. What is about weddings that bring out the worst in people? All the stress and then in about 6hrs its all over with and you can't remember why you were so upset:confused3
