Hello Everyone,

We have to decide one last detail my fiancee and I, and we can't seam to make up our minds. :confused3
We are having a dessert at our reception and are wondering if we should also have the cake? We are both not crazy about cakes, but I feel that if we don't have one they'll be something missing from the wedding!!

What do you think? Will people wonder..where's the cake?

Something you could do is just have a smaller one tier cake. That way you can do the traditional cut the cake for people to see. If anyone wants to eat it they can, but if you have other desserts there, I wouldn't worry what people think. It's your day!

Hello Stephanie,

We asked and since we are having a custom wedding the smaller cake is a cake for 50 people. We are only having 36 people but they do not make anything smaller!! :sad2:

Would you ask yourself, where's the cake? if there was no cake at a wedding you attend?

What about a different kind of dessert... I have been to weddings with cupcakes and even with pie. The couple still cut the pie and did the traditional route as though it were a cake. The cupcakes were divided in half and then still shared. Today weddings are more a reflection of the individual :cool2: ; anything goes, so if you don't want to add a cake don't worry about it.

I went to a friend's wedding who did her cake cutting at the dessert party and not the reception, therefore there was no cake at the reception. The dessert party was a surprise so nobody knew about that the cake would be there, and still nobody seemed to notice or pay any attention to the fact that there was no cake. There's so much else going on, honestly if someone notices you don't have a cake I would be surprised! It's your wedding, I say go for the no-cake :thumbsup2

Mary, Whos wedding did you go to lol!!

I had my cake at the DP and no one said anything, to me, about there not being a cake at the reception.

The only ones who noticed were my aunts........lets just say they are very observant and.....interesting!!!

I think it is up to you to decide if you want cake or not.

We did Cake at the DP with choclate covered strawberries and Beer, wine, and coffee.

I only wish we had gotten more strawberries (apparently 8 doz wasn't enough for 60 people) they were gone in a flash!!!!

I went through EXACTLY the same thing, except I had 99 guests...but wanted to do just a one tier, or even a one tier with a fake top. But they told me the same thing. Honestly, I was super turned off by the price of the cake...and NOt enough people ever eat it--or enjoy it enough for the cost--that I was at the planning session (planning session number two because they forgot to set up the taste testing for the first one with my dh and so he wasn't at this one) and I excused myself and went out and called my fiance and said, "Would you have a problem if I nixed the cake?" When I explained my reasoning, he said no problem. I preferred a yummy dessert to the cake. It was a little strange to not have the cake cutting........we did do that at our at home reception and it was really funny because we realized we had no idea how/what to do with the cake cutting at home as we hadn't thought to ask anyone ahead of time.

So short answer to your question...go ahead and nix it. No one commented on it at our event--although I probably told a good number of people ahead of time that it wouldn't be there. I think too because it is Disney, people just think it is one of those Disney things that is different. who knows? But no one thought it was odd or wrong that we didn't have a cake.....and it saved us a LOT of money!

I don't think people will notice "no cake" what they might notice (and the important part) is the "cake cutting ceremony" it symbolizes breaking bread together as a married couple for the first time. How about cutting into one of the desserts instead? :thumbsup2

For me I would just cut out the dessert and have cake but that is just me and I think a cake is a HUGE part of a wedding! I don't think anyone would really notice if you didn't have it although I think I would be one of those freak observant people who noticed that there wasn't one (but that is probably due to the fact that I spend so much time on here LOL) I think in the end it is up to you and what you picture for your day. There really isn't a wrong or right decision.

Thanks everyone for your opinions!

Unfortunatly we cannot forget the dessert since we are having the "castle menu" which is already set up and comes with a dessert.

I think we will discuss nixing the cake, if our coordinator lets us ( we are few days after our 30 days mark) because I too beleive some much will be going on, we are having magiciens and jugglers entertaining the guests, that no one will notice that there is no cake.
The idea of sharing our dessert thou is really great!!

Thanks for all your great ideas !!!:grouphug:

I had a dessert table along with a display of cupcakes, cookies, rice crispy treats, and pie....etc. I say, as long as everything is tasty, then everyone will be happy! :thumbsup2 Go for it!

If it makes you feel any better my DF and I aren't having a cake at all...we're just doing a dessert table. I'm a nibbler and don't want to pick just one thing so since it's our day we decided no cake. We're just having lot's of other goodies. We're still getting a cake topper though and we're going to put it in the middle on a decorative pedestal. HTH! :goodvibes

I wish I could have a small cake... Seriously, why is it so hard to make a small cake?! How big are the intimate cakes?? They must be for less then 50 people! *sigh* Anyway, I'm doing mini cakes - at one for each couple because there is already dessert and I didn't want to waste. But at $22 per cake...

I went to a wedding last summer and ate so much I wish there hadn't been cake. :)

Honestly, I would never notice but there will always be one in every crowd who thinks "Where's the cake?" If it was me and I didn't want cake I wouldn't have one or I'd put BYOC in the invitation (Bring Your Own Cake). :teeth:
