Wedding at SBP, portable music player?

I just received an email from Tanis saying that they have no portable CD player that they can provide. Is this correct? How exactly do people have songs playing for their first dance?
My DF and I really want From This Moment On by Shania Twain, but it won't mean as much with just the violinist playing it and no lyrics. The only thing I can think of is to ask Stan from STVS if he can play the song over the violin version. Does anyone think this will be possible?
Or does anyone have any suggestions for the portable CD player? I cannot take one over from the UK, it will weigh far too much

Yeah, it's true I found this out like 10 days before we left. I wasn't going to bring a CD player from Canada! (They don't have a CD player for Commader's Terrace either) But DH and I really wanted out David Gray song. In the end I borrowed my brother's computer speakers (really light) and hooked up my MP3 player. It worked out ok.

I'm really confused as to why DFTW doesn't have a portable CD player. You'd think with all the intimate weddings they'd invest in a couple....

Here are two options:
1) You could bring an MP3 player (ex. - ipod) and buy a set of cheap speakers to bring with you or purchase when you get here.

2) Buy a portable CD player from Walmart when you get into town and return it when you're done. We did that with a rubbermaid container we bought to hold all the centerpieces we brought from DH's parents house to DFTW. We returned it a couple days after the wedding, no questions asked.

My wedding planner didn't tell me they don't have a CD player and I don't remember reading it in my contract or another document. I'm glad I found out with two months to go rather than ten days away. I can't believe for $2950 per wedding they can't provide a way of playing your CD for your first dance. For all the many great things that DFTW offers, they bring out a number of difficulties too.

Okay, Stan emailed me and advised me to send him copies of the songs that I am using and he will replace them on the video. He told me that outside weddings tend to produce poor quality sound for the music part. Specifically to Diane, I know you got married at SBP too, and when I watched your video the sound quality was great, did you do the same thing and provide Stan with the songs, so he could play over them?

I have a cheap iPod shuffle and I can get some cheap speakers, but it's just one more thing to worry about and one more unexpected expense. Know what I mean? Now I have to make sure someone remembers to bring the MP3 player, speakers, the battery is charged up and bringing it back and forth across the border in premium luggage space. I thought most computer speakers needed to get plugged into a power outlet though? I'm looking at mine right now and they plug into my power bar. Would it be weird if the bride and groom didn't bring speakers, but just puts on headphones and dances while everyone hears silence?

I read through my contract and planning kit again last night and neither document says they provide a stereo for the first dance (or any information for that matter), so it's easy to miss that it implies they don't provide it.

If my wedding planner was any good, I would consider going out to buy a mini stereo in Orlando and give it to her as a thank you gift afterwards. Although it's not just the stereo, but probably a lot of batteries too. I will assume there's no power outlet available at SBP. Then maybe she might keep it in her office and bring it with her to future ceremonies. I'm still shocked!

We had the same problem for DD's wedding at Sunset Point. My plan was to bring a cheap battery operated CD player from home, then just leave it in my room when I left with a note "Free to a good home". It was too much trouble to lug it back with all the other wedding stuff. I bought one for $20 at Wal-Mart & the 8 batteries it required. I tested it before leaving home & it worked fine. I hand carried it on the plane. When I got to my room, I tested it again. IT WOULDN'T WORK, NOT EVEN WITH THE ELECTRIC CORD. Oh No! Wedding tomorrow.DD(Melmel) will kill me! So I went to Downtown Disney, to World of Disney. They didn't have one, but the CM at the information desk called around & found one at the Disney Toy store(can't rememberr the name of the place). So I found one there $90, bright red with the buttons laid out as a Hidden Mickey. It got a lot of laughs at the wedding & Randy made sure he got a picture of it during their first dance. So all was well, except that now I'm out $90. It's too expensive to just leave behind. So I did something I would never consider doing under normal circumstances. I returned it. I felt al little guilty, but not too much. After all, it was only used for 5 minutes. It also made for a great story to add to the wedding scrapbook I made for them.

I completely missed it. There was nothing about this in the contract OR in the planning pages. Then when I got my BEO (10 business days out - right before a hectic holiday season -- and IN THE MIDDLE of my take home tax exam) on the sheet that had the information about the dances there was a little asterix next to the song name*





*and at the bottom of the page? "Couple must provide CD player"

I immediately closed the document before I could panick too much. When DH came home burst into tears. I explained the situation, and we almost overhauled everything! He didn't want to use any type of CD player because he thought the sound would be poor. So we almost just went with the volinist. But I convinced him to at least hear how loud the speakers could be from my brother's computer and finally he agreed.

Luckily the speakers didn't take up too much space. And luckily my brother didn't mind hooking everything up for me at Commander's terrace (he even hunted down an extension cord from the GF staff - which I never thought of) because my on site coordinator looked at me in bewilderment when I tried to explain how to set it up. In the end I was like: Just ask my brother to do it -- he's the only other younger man other than DH, you'll know who he is.

Talk about a stressful situation. I remember calling my WC about it because I wasn't sure at first if they'd allow an MP3 player (I was worried that they would want an actual CD to prove that it wasn't an illegally downloaded song). I was so defeated. That was like the lowest of low that I felt before the wedding. I just gave up on DFTWs completely and was like: whatever, it's either going to be beautiful or a complete disaster.

I'm glad you found out now ChocolateMouse, so you have some time to figure out the best course of action.
