I posted over at the disney wedding/honeymoon board, but thought I'd ask here too, for more advice...
I'm new at this wedding planning stuff :)

*copy and pasting from other thread*

I need some advice tho from looking at this! We are tryign alot of DIY things with this wedding....
Bridal bouquet, bridesmaids, groomsmen covered
We are doing candles in champagne glasses as centerpeices at reception tables (although I saw some of flowers floating in glasses which is beautiful! How does that work?)

If the flowergirl carries a basket of flower petals (we will be using real white rose petals for this), does she need a wand or bouquet too?

And, if we are doing a unity sand ceremony, should we have a floral arrangement with that like some have with the unity candle?

Everyones bouquet seems so big and round.. is it bad to have it long and lean? I'll post pics of what I have so far soon...

Also, if moms aren't IN the wedding, are they supposed to have flowers? We did get them 'mom of bride, mom of groom' pins...

What else????? Ahhhhh time is coming fast!!

What all am *I* responsibile for I guess is what I need to knwo :)

Thanks!

we got our moms corsages, not bouquets. they both pinned them to their bags and they looked really pretty and not promish.

flower girl would be either basket or bouquet. maybe some fresh flowers in her hair would be pretty, but I wouldn't do more personally.

I PM'd my response to you. It was a bit long ...

Please let me know if you have other questions. I'm happy to help!

I agree.

As far as the unity sand and flowers I think you can do what ever you want. I went to a wedding earlier this month where they did unity sand and there wasn't a flower arrangement on the table. I believe there was flower petals around the sand vases.

For your bouquet you can do whatever makes you happy. It doesn't matter if everyone else likes it or thinks its 'right'.

And CONGRATS!

My FDIL went to Michaels and picked up artificial flowers to do all the flowers for the bridal party. They are going to be wonderful. Then venue does the centerpieces. And it is nice if mom's have some flowers, but that is up to you. There is a great website http://www.theknot.com/ that can help you too!

Good Luck!

They've got a lot of really beautiful projects in varying difficulties. If nothing else, it might give you some inspiration! :thumbsup2

ETA: I saw you asked about the floating flower centerpieces. They're so beautiful! You meant like this, right?

I found this on WeddingChannel.com: "Floating Flowers: Picture hot pink Gerbera daisies floating in a clear bowl, or exotic water lilies and candles in a shallow bamboo basin. Floating flowers, especially when lit by tiny tea lights, make centerpieces that are dramatic, unusual... and easy. To make your centerpieces, simply choose a flower with a large bloom, such as Gerbera daisies, gardenias or garden roses. Cut the flowers short, leaving only an inch of stem to serve as an anchor, and gently float the blooms in your water bowls. Because most bowls can handle a max of 5 or so flowers, floating centerpieces are as inexpensive as they are beautiful."

Check out the local farmers market for bouquets if you are doing fresh flowers. Ours has beautiful bouquets for $10! They having floating candles in flower shapes, is that what you are asking about?

Edited to add: the last wedding I was in, each of us bridesmaids and the mothers carried one single carnation (could be any flower). The flower girls just carried a small basket with petals, thats all.

I highly recommend the wedding planning section of constantchatter dot com. That site started when the boards on weddingchannel dot com changed and got weird and way too modified...sort of a revolution, LOL. Very helpful, real people, etc etc etc.

Yes! I think those are so pretty!

I have been playing with my bouquet and the bridesmaids...
I have mine pretty full now with white roses, baby breath and greenery...
The bridesmaids I have 3 yellow, 3 white roses, and they will be more like wands... I hope it looks good..I'll try to post pictures

Thanks everyone!
And, I like the idea of a flower for the purse of the moms.. maybe even personalize a tote bag for them...hmmm :)
