Day 1
Wednesday 10th August
The Day Before
We've always said we'd never go to Florida in the summer beacuse of the heat, thehumidity and the dearer prices. Well, whilst we were trying to think of somewhere to go for the only week we had available to us, Enz sort of mentioned that he liked the fact that we'd been to Florida a few times now and that we really like it there. Needless to say, he didn't need to say it again - I pulled up the Virgin Holidays website and as luck would have it there were free child places available so I got it all priced up. So that's how we ended up booking a summer trip to Orlando for the price of 2 weeks in October!
We got up at about 9 this morning. I couldnt sleep last night was downstairs making a mug of tea at 2am!! Finally went back to bed at about 3am.
Did general tidying up/cleaning of bathrooms and toilets - lovely!
Decided to have a quick shower slipped getting in and bashed my shin on the side of the cubicle resulting in a big lump, a bruise and tears! Such a baby! Dabbed on some arnica and tried to finish off the packing with a bag of ice tied to my leg.
12.30 arrived and it was time to have a go at Virgins On-Line Check-in very quick and easy to use.
Enz went to load the suitcases in to car and just for a change we had a mini drama the cases didnt fit! We really must buy a sensible family car. Enz gave his sister a call and went to her house and swapped our car for her Picasso.
We werent really in any rush this year because we didnt have to try to get to Gatwick for the Twilight Check-In so we set off at 1.30 making a stop at Fosse Park to pay my M & S bill and to have a quick lunch in the foodcourt.
We finally hit the M1 and made our way to the Ramada Plaza Gatwick for about 5 oclock. We (read Enz I dont need directions) took the wrong turning off the motorway he got a bit excited when he saw the first sign for the airport. I DID tell him it was the next exit but hey ho! This in turn made the hotel seem a lot further away from the airport than it really is.
We all used the pool and steam room until about 6.30 which made a nice change to our usual night before we go routine of loitering at the airport!
We had dinner in the bar area Enz had mushroom soup and a prawn sandwich, I had a grilled veg and feta sandwich, Gabs had pizza and chips and Gianni had chicken and chips. Somehow Gianni manage to fit in not only that, but garlic bread and a choc fudge cake. A couple of rounds of drinks and £52.00 later we went to the room and watched the Mummy Returns before some much needed zzzzzzzs.
