Website

So, I now have 2 reservations:

I booked a duplicate, with the extra day, while my upcoming vacations were missing (we luckily had the extra points available). I’ve now received an email confirmation for the duplicate.

Then, a little later, I was able to modify my previous reservation while I was briefly able to see upcoming vacations using my phone. No confirmation for that one yet.

Argh.

I’m in a similar boat…I hate the 7 night maximum…I’m doing 2 weeks in august and I have to now log in every day for the next week to add one night at a time.
If DVC didn't impose a 7 day maximum, it would effectively give preference to members with a large number of points. Imagine you and I both want to book September 1-7. You only have enough points for that trip so you cannot book until February 1 (7 months from check-in.)

I have a lot of extra point sitting around so today I book August 20 - September 7. Then a couple weeks from now, I drop Aug 20-31 from my reservation, keeping only 9/1 - 9/7.

It's another form of "walking" that would be much easier for large point owners without the 7 day booking limit. And large point owners are the ones who are probably most apt to manipulate the system--targeting specific rooms and dates for rental purposes, etc.

When did the 7 day limit start? I booked an 8 day trip last September without a problem.

You must’ve booked one day after the booking day. There’s always been a 7 night limit on the 7 and 11 month window. You can add a day the next day. All my trips are 10-14 days, so do this routinely

I read this comment like 5 times, and I'm still not sure what you are arguing. Doesn't this give an advantage already? Just an only 7 day one? would it matter if it's a 3 day or 7 day or 12 day?

The more days DVC allowed members to book following their stated check-in date, the greater advantage it would provide to large point owners.

Staying away from the website today might not be a bad idea, based on the above comments. I don't want to create any problems that need to be fixed at a later date.

I just tried at 11:20 am and that guy's head is on the floor

I think I vaguely remember it being a 10-day limit at some point?
I don't believe so.

It used to be based upon the check OUT date. If you wanted to stay September 1-7 2023, 11 months would be a booking date of October 7 2022 and seven months would be February 7 '23. Many members responded by booking their trips one day at a time, calling DVC on October 1 to book the night of September 1, October 2 to book September 2 and so on. That was before online reservations even existed, and required daily phone calls.

Since they they changed the basis to arrival date about 10-12 years ago, it was always 7 day maximum.
