Hi-
We have someone interested in going on the same cruise we are going on in a couple of weeks. He can't seem to find his birth certificate with the raised seal - we leave in a couple of weeks. There was a website location where one could obtain a bc rather quickly through the mail but i can't recall the web address. Does anyone happen to know what the website is?

It would be from the state government of whichever state he was born in. You might be able to order it and drive to pick it up or pay extra for overnight delivery.

you can also call information for "vital statistics" in the state capital of birth. you can mail info and maybe order over the phone w/credit card. we ordered ours from 3 different states and had them in less than 2 weeks. i know you are rushed for time. maybe they have express mail service. i just know that if you can get it in time it is alot cheaper ($5-15) if you order directly from vital statistics. just an idea......good luck!

Thanks FirtstTimeCruiser that is exactly the one I was thinking of. You are pretty sharp for a 1st timer :teeth:

When DS was visiting home earlier this year, we thought that we had his birth certificate as he was heading to Mexico the following week on vacation. Well, it wasn't here and since he lives in Charlotte, he couldn't go home and look for it.

The websites that provide BC expedited services weren't very encouraging. He was born in NJ and it seems that there are problems getting documents from that state.

We were going to make the 4 hour drive to Pt. Pleasant to get the certificate. Before doing this, I called there and got the nicest lady. She told us to send the request via Fedex along with a $4.00 money order and a prepaid return Fedex envelope enclosed. We got it back two days later.

I suggest you contact the local agency before paying the big bucks to get it expedited.

Last October, we had the same situation. I was very pleased with this company getting me an Ohio birth certificate ASAP--I can't post URL's yet, so just Google "US vital documents" and its the first hit. Good luck.

Just wonder inf anyone has ever sailed DCL using a HOSPITAL issued birth certificate? Not one that says it is from the state? This particular one is from the state of New Jersey issued for a birth in the year of 1949. Something is telling me that the requirement is for it to be STATE issued.
Thanks,
Carolyn

Hospital and Church issued birth certificates carry no legal weight. It has to be from the county or state you were born in. It has to have a raised seal, or in the case of newer ones, be on engraved paper. And it was be the original, not a photocopy of one.

Call the Town Hall/City Hall of the town or city that the persons parents lived when that person was born. The town/city that the person was born will not help, it needs to be the town/city where you (your parents) resided at the time of the birth. Mine cost $7.00, and they would take a credit card right over the phone, I could have paid extra to get it overnighted if I wanted. They will ask some questions to verify who you are, and may ask you to fax them your drivers license (I had to do this to get one for my DD, but not for myself). Anyway, good luck!
