What might be a reasonable price to pay for a static 2 page, templated, website? Might have 5 - 10 photos. And might have 2 PDF's to download. And of course, mail setup.

I could probably make one if I really wanted to, but it would look horrible. I have no sense of design.

No Flash.... just a basic site.

Honestly, you can do it yourself VERY EASILY on a site called Squarespace.

www.squarespace.com

There are LOTS of websites that use this service and it is super easy. One of the benefits is that you can update it and change it as many times as you want. The changes are instant. So no need to call your designer back just because you want to change something. It's up to you, and very user friendly.

My DH told me about this and we developed a site on it. I am SOOOOO not tech savvy and now I edit my site weekly with no problem. I can honestly say it took me a couple of hours the first time, but once you get it you're done.

Another advantage is the price. I think it's $25/month. (frankly, less than you would pay your designer just for a change.)

Also, STAY AWAY FROM FLASH!! I know you said you didn't want it, but just in case you ever change your mind. Flash is on the verge of being replaced by HTML5. Also, any IPhone, ITouch, IPad doesn't support Flash, so if you EVER have someone pull up your website on one of those platforms, then they won't get the visual.

Just my two cents! Good Luck!

I actually tried that site... and I hated the way it was coming together. The site seems fine.. I am just not good at making things look very good.

I am learning Web Design (going to major in digital media)

I can do some graphics (Buttons banners ect in fireworks) i know html and i am starting to learn CSS and Javascript.

If you like what i can do i would be able to do it pretty cheap. (15-30)

I am still learning but i can make the colors and buttons ect match. (A lot of new people can't seem to do that)

My 16 just got paid $600 for designing one for a local business. It was Flash though. (which makes the site slow IMHO) but it came out great. I bet you could find a local teen to do it inexpensively. Flash made it more difficult to design which is why they needed him.

Oh and he will be the webmaster and get a monthly fee.

That's really the way to go for what is being discussed here. Practically no one who does this sort of thing professionally would touch a job so small.

Try webs.com . I put together a website for our girls golf team there-having never done anything like that before. It is super easy to do and they have pre-made templates where you just put in your info. You can upload info easily, add pictures just like you would on Photobucket, etc. They have a free option too so if you don't like it you are not out anything. There are ads on the free site. We upgraded to the lowest level of paid so we don't have ads and that is $49/year.

Its really so easy to do yourself. The bonus is if you need to change it or update it you can do it yourself. If you don't like any of the sites you've seen online you can download a trial of dreamweaver online and create your own.

Yep, Bicker's right. DH does professional sites and won't touch one for less than 1600, and that's pretty cheap around here. That's why I love Squarespace, but I'm sure there are other sites out there with templates that work too. This particular one just works with my "Linear-ness" ! ;)

Well, I am trying it again... and I am struggling again. My brain does not do well with anything web geek.....

LOL! I totally understand. In the morning I will look around and see if I see any other template sites. If I find any I will let you know! Good luck!

Well I design website for a living and static 2 page website with a specific design mockup would cost you around 400-500$.

Dont go for the companies which say they will do it for 200$ they are usually overseas and a PITA to work with.

Thanks.... The company I was looking at wanted $800 to design and host for year 1, and then $400 a year to host after that, with a limited amount of changes per year.

Monthly webmaster fee my son is getting is $45. (again a flash site though)

For something that simple I'd look on eBay or Etsy. You're probably looking at $100 including up to three changes. They'll give you all the code and you'll just have to upload to your ftp space.
